India won the only T20I against South Africa by 16 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. After the hosts were propelled to 146/5 by Smriti Mandhana (52) and Mithali Raj (40), Poonam Yadav claimed 3/18 to help keep the visitors to 130/9 to finish the tour on a victorious note.

Earlier, opening the innings for hosts, Raj and VR Vanitha put up a 45-run opening stand until the latter was sent back for seven by Sunette Loubser. Scoring at a quick pace, Raj was the more aggressive of the duo and followed her partner back six runs later.

18 runs later Harmanpreet Kaur too was sent back by Loubser, while Mandhana, who had come to the crease in the seventh over carried the innings forward. With Shikha Pandey she added 63 for the fourth wicket until Ayabonga Khaka struck to end the stand. The bowler claimed Pandey to leave India on 132/4 in the pen-ultimate over. On the first ball of the last over, Marizanne Kapp accounted for the No.3 bat. But Jhulan Goswami and Sneh Rana took India to respectable total, adding 12 runs in five balls.

Chasing 147 runs, Trisha Chetty was the first to be sent back, bowled by Harmanpreet Kaur to end the opening stand for 32. And 30 runs later Lizelle Lee was removed by Yadav who also sent back Mignon du Preez later in the over to leave SA on 63/3. Opener Dane van Niekerk who had held the innings together was the next to return to the dressing room, run-out for 46.

Ekta Bisht who claimed Kapp 30 runs later also ran out Moodley and castled Loubser to leave the opposition reeling on 119/7 in 18 overs. In the following over Nonkululeko Thabethe was run out while Yadav accounted for Marcia Letsoalo to push SA out of the game. With 24 runs required off seven balls Khaka joined Yolani Fourie in the middle but facing an improbable task the two remained unbeaten in the loss.
