Manoj-Tiwary-Australia-A-v-India-A

India A were 304 for six at the end of Day 1 of the first four-day match against Australia A in Brisbane. Skipper Manoj Tiwary top-scored for the visitors after electing to bat at the Allan Border Field and was ably supported by Jiwanjot Singh in salvaging the innings after losing three wickets for just 43 runs. Further strengthened by Naman Ojha’s unbeaten 82, India A were comfortably placed when play ended on the first day. At stumps, Dhawal Kulkarni was batting on 12 with Ojha.

Earlier, on the first day of the tour, Robin Uthappa opened the innings with Karnataka teammate Lokesh Rahul however; their partnership was cut short for 35 by Ben Cutting. The fast bowler trapped Rahul leg-before while eight runs later Mitchell Marsh sent back his opening partner. Without a run added to the scoreboard, the pacer bowled Ambati Rayudu for duck in his next over.

Tiwary then joined Singh in the middle and the pair tried to revive the Indian innings. They stitched a 134-run partnership to help avert a collapse and took the innings forward. Their effort eventually came to an end with Singh edging Cutting to the wicketkeeper to depart after adding a valuable 56 runs. Caught by Sam Whiteman behind the wickets off leg-spinner Cameron Boyce, Tiwary was back in the dressing room after contributing 83 off 118.

The pair of Karun Nair and Ojha then built upon Singh-Tiwary’s efforts to take the team past 250 until the former was sent back by the Australia A spinner. Meanwhile Ojha continued to hold the innings together in an effort to set the hosts a competitive first innings score. With a boundary off Boyce, the India A wicketkeeper took the team past the 300-run mark. When play was called the seventh wicket unbroken stand between Ojha and Kulkarni was worth 50 runs.

Brief scores:

Day 1: India A 304/6 in 89.1 overs (M Tiwary 83, N Ojha 82*, J Singh 56, M Marsh 2/46, B Cutting 2/65, Boyce 2/84)
