Ranji Trophy 2013/14: Stats Highlights, 1st Round

Tendulkar averages 81.8 in Mumbai wins Sachin Tendulkar's unbeaten 79 against Haryana was his 19th half-century in the Ranji Trophy and his 115th in first-class cricket. This was Tendulkar's first fifty-plus score in eight first-class innings since his 81 against Australia at Chennai earlier this year. Tendulkar has ended his Ranji Trophy-career with an average of 81.8 in Mumbai's wins; he has hit 2290 runs from 23 matches including nine centuries.  Harbhajan's first five-for in 39 first-class innings Harbhajan Singh's bowling figures of 6 for 54 against Odisha in Punjab's opening match are his best in the tournament. Baba Aparajith scored a double century for Tamil Nadu against services, while MP’s Satyam Choudhary anchored the Madhya Pradesh innings with 239 not-out in the first round of the Ranji Trophy 2013-14. Here is the round-up for Day 2 of the first round:  Group B  Saurashtra vs Rajasthan : Resuming on 226 for two, Saurashtra took their first innings score to 475 for the loss of seven wickets on the second day. Opener Sagar Jogiyani was castled for 133 by veteran spinner Ramesh Powar after adding 19 runs to his overnight score. The bowler finished the day with a four-for. While the rest of the line-up made useful contributions, lower-order batsman, C.S. Jani made 64, while Aarpit Vasavada was dismissed one run short of his half-century. In a team that boasts of Test players and former national stars, Baba Aparajith made sure he would do the star turn as Tamil Nadu began its Ranji Trophy campaign on a strong note. With an unbeaten 109 on the first day against Services, Aparajith continued to reassert his ability to play a long innings. When he walked in at No. 4 on Sunday, Tamil Nadu was struggling at 16 for two after electing to bat. Opener Satyam Choudhary scored an unbeaten century to help Madhya Pradesh reach 282 for three in their first innings against Railways on the opening day of a Group B Ranji Trophy match here on Sunday. Yusuf Pathan continued his fine run in limited overs format as his smashing half-century helped West Zone crush South by five wickets as they entered the final of the Deodhar Trophy. West will now take on North Zone in tomorrow's summit clash. Put into bat, South made a decent 258 for five in their stipulated 50 overs riding on half-centuries from Stuart Binny (65) and Sachin Baby (58). In reply, West knocked off the runs in 41.1 overs courtesy Yusuf's 53-ball-68. The India discard hit eight boundaries and two mighty sixes -- one each of offie Baba Aparajith and left-arm spinner B Sudhakar. Deodhar Trophy: Baba Aparajith Maiden Ton - South Zone Enter Semis

Young Baba Aparajith scored his maiden century in limited overs cricket as South Zone beat East by 11 runs in the Deodhar Trophy quarter-final in Guwahati on Sunday. South will now take on West Zone in the second semi-final slated for Tuesday. Opting to bat the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati, South Zone posted a healthy total of 284 for five in 50 overs riding on Aparajith's 121. The India colts player played 129 balls and hit 10 fours and three sixes in his innings. In reply, East managed to 273 for seven with skipper Wriddhiman Saha top-scoring with 77 and Ishank Jaggi managing to hit 55. It was the 89 runs given by the East Zone bowlers in the final 10 overs of the South innings that turned out to be decisive. ICC Under-19 World Cup, 3rd Quarter-Final: India Under-19s v Pakistan Under-19s at Townsville, Aug 20, 2012 India beat Pakistan by 1 wicket in their Quarter-Final and reaches the Semi Final of the ICC U-19 World Cup. Babar Azam (Pak U19 Captain): "I'm proud of my team. Despite the low score, they fought till the end." Unmukt Chand  (Ind U19 Captain) : "I was very nervous, could feel the goosebumps, Still shivering. We played 3 matches against Pak. First we lost by a run, 2nd was a tie and this we won by 1 wkt. It's thrilling" Baba Aparajith is the Man of the Match. 51 runs and 4 catches. Aparajith: "I was batting well, setting small targets. I wished I could've finished the match.
