Mumbai Indians vs Otago Volts, M5 - Report: CLT20-2013
Weather came in the way of cricket for the second time on the day when the match between the Mumbai Indians and Otago Volts - Match 5 of the Karbonn Smart CLT20 2013 - was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Both teams split points from the match and had to be content with two points each. (Read: Rajasthan Royals vs Mumbai Indians, M1 - Report: CLT20-2013)
The four points in this match were more crucial for the Mumbai Indians, given they had lost to the Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural match of the season. The IPL champions sit bottom of the table in Group A and with just two more matches remaining, the pressure will be on MI to win both of them – as convincingly as possible – to give them a chance of progressing to the knockouts. The Otago Volts meanwhile had their 13-match winning streak halted abruptly. The team from New Zealand looked very convincing in each of their three wins in the Karbonn Smart CLT20 2013 Qualifiers. Today’s result will not matter too much to the Volts, given they are tied with two other teams, who have played the same number of matches, on the same number of points.
Mumbai Indians’ next fixture is against the Highveld Lions on September 27, while the Otago Volts fly out to Jaipur for their match against the Perth Scorchers on September 25.
