CSK coach Stephen Fleming: Intensity Is Key For Us

In his typical calm and casual manner, MS Dhoni walked into the press conference room at Ranchi with a smile on his face. He would be feeling at home, as he gears up to play his first T20 game in front of his home crowd. One can expect a packed stadium when the Men in Yellow, led by the charismatic Dhoni, walk out to face the Titans in the first game of their CLT20 2013 campaign.

Dhoni has been in his hometown for a while even as the rest of the members of the CSK squad finally arrived. “I have been in Ranchi for quite some time now, but the team had come a few days back. Some of the members joined yesterday, while the rest have joined today (Wednesday),” Dhoni said. (Also Read: CLT20 2013 Squad - Chennai Super Kings (CSK))

The CSK captain also said that the next few days would be crucial to CSK preparations. “As a team, we would try and make use of the practice sessions that we have before our first game, because we have not had a lot of time to practice. Hopefully, the weather should get better in the days to come so that we can play some good practice matches.”

Unlike the IPL, this tournament will play host to foreign teams as well. So how have the Men in Yellow prepared for the tournament that features teams from different countries and different styles? CSK coach Stephen Fleming replied to that saying, “I think there is enough cricket played where you can garner the information through different sources. We have watched the Australian teams in the Big Bash. The other teams have watched the IPL.”

“The key thing from an Indian side’s perspective is that we do not change too much. The challenge is for overseas teams. They need to get adjusted to the conditions. Likewise, our foreign players would have to adapt and make sure that the style of play that we have in the IPL stands up to the pressure of the international sides that are coming here to prove themselves. Intensity will be our challenge and we have to make sure that we stick to what works for us and not try and be something different.” Concluded Fleming.
