Brisbane Heat vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, M17 - Report: CLT20-2013

Image
Match 17 of the Karbonn Smart CLT20 2013 between Brisbane Heat and Sunrisers Hyderabad, scheduled to be played at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad, had to be abandoned without a ball being bowled. The thunderstorm, which set in during the earlier match between the Titans and Trinidad & Tobago rendered the playing area unusable, eventually forcing the match officials to call off the game. What started off as a steady drizzle in the evening, turned into a thunderstorm in a matter of minutes, catching the ground staff off guard. With the rains not relenting and with puddles being formed in various parts of the ground, there was no option but to call off the match. The result means Brisbane Heat complete their CLT20 2013 campaign with just two points on the board, having lost three of their four matches. Sunrisers Hyderabad, who qualified for the main draw of the tournament by finishing among the top two teams in the Qualifiers, are out of contention from progres...

Suresh Raina Yearns No.3 Spot in Indian Line-Up: CLT20 2013

Image
Before MS Dhoni stole his thunder with a scorching 63 off 19 balls, Suresh Raina was the beneficiary of the loudest cheers from the Ranchi crowd. It was his knock of 84 (57 balls) that not only helped CSK recover from the first-over loss of Murali Vijay, but also set up a platform for a big total. And when he was done batting, he got rid of JP Duminy and ran Parthiv Patel out. (Also Read:  Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, M10 - Report: CLT20-2013 ) In the end, Raina got his thunder back when he was named the Man of the Match after CSK’s 12-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad. He spoke to clt20.com after the match about his knock, the conscious effort to bat big after getting a start and his favourite shots. He also listed down the things he has learnt from the inimitable Mr. Dhoni.  (Also Read:  Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, M10 - Stats Highlights: CLT20-2013 ) Here are excerpts from his interview: The best thing about your knock wa...

Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, M10 - Report: CLT20-2013

Chennai Super Kings skipper and local lad, MS Dhoni, set the JSCA International Cricket Stadium on fire as his team defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 12 runs in Match 10 of the Karbonn Smart CLT20 2013. Powered by Dhoni’s 63 – during which he smashed the fastest half-century in CLT20 history – CSK posted 202 batting first and then restricted the Sunrisers to 190 to register their second win in the competition. (Also Read:  Suresh Raina Yearns No.3 Spot in Indian Line-Up: CLT20 2013 ) After being put in to bat, CSK lost Murali Vijay to the second ball of the innings. But Suresh Raina and Michael Hussey wrested the initiative back in style, adding 45 runs over the next six overs. Raina opened his account with two crisp boundaries off Steyn, while Hussey got stuck into Ishant Sharma hitting him for two boundaries and a six. The partnership was separated when Hussey edged one from JP Duminy to the wicketkeeper; he made 23 from 21 balls.  (Also Read:  Chennai Super...

Trinidad & Tobago vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, M7 - Report: CLT20-2013

Image
Sunrisers Hyderabad opened their campaign in the Karbonn Smart CLT20 2013 in style after they chased down 161 to defeat Trinidad & Tobago in a high-scoring contest at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. SRH’s cause was powered by Thisara Perera, who scored an unbeaten 57 in a high-pressure run-chase. (Also Read:  Trinidad & Tobago vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, M7 - Stats Highlights: CLT20-2013 ) After the SRH openers Parthiv Patel and Shikhar Dhawan had seen their team off to a brisk start, it was left to the middle order to see the team through. Despite losing wickets in quick successions on a couple of occasions, Perera’s blitz ensured his team bagged the four points from the match. The Sri Lankan, who walked in to bat with his team needing 91 runs from 59 balls, opened his account with a towering six off Navin Stewart. He meted out the same treatment to Rayad Emrit and Ravi Rampaul. He was particularly severe on Emrit, who he hit for 28 runs of 16 balls. His 32-ball knock con...

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Otago Volts: Q6 - Match Report

Image
In the final league match of the Karbonn Smart CLT20 2013 Qualifiers, the Otago Volts handed favourites Sunrisers Hyderabad a five-wicket defeat at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. After putting the Sunrisers in to bat, the Volts did well to restrict them to 143 and then chased down the runs in 16.2 overs. The result means the Volts went unbeaten in the Qualifiers and finish at the top of the table, while the Sunrisers were placed second. Despite being faced with a not too challenging target, the Volts came out aggressive. Openers Neil Broom and Hamish Rutherford got stuck into some wayward bowling from the Sunrisers bowlers and powered their way to 27 in three overs, when the former was caught behind off Dale Steyn. Brendon McCullum walked in at No.3 and did not let the intensity dip; he got off the mark in style, smashing Darren Sammy for a six off the first delivery he faced. Though Rutherford lifted his foot of the pedal, Brendon kept up the scoring rate.  The Volts cap...

SRH Amit Mishra: Won't Sacrifice Flights & Spin In T20s

Image
Amit Mishra’s figures of 4-1-13-1 against Faisalabad Wolves were the best display of spin bowling in the CLT20 2013 Qualifiers. More importantly, they were a major reason why Sunrisers Hyderabad made it to the Group Stage of the tournament with one match to spare. (Also Read:   Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Faisalabad Wolves: Q4 - Match Report ) In a chat with  clt20.com  after his team won by seven wickets, Mishra explained what this qualification meant to the Sunrisers franchise and what has been the secret of their bonhomie. The leg-spinner also dwelt deep into his bowling – the mental and technical aspects of it – and opened up about the work he has put into it during the past year and a half. The spinners have struggled to make an impact in the first four Qualifier matches on the Mohali track. What did you do differently for your 1 for 13? To be honest, I have always had a bit of a problem bowling on such wickets and I have worked on certain things ...

SRH Ishant Sharma Credits Limited Overs Success To Confidence

Image
After his blooming career was interrupted by injuries, there was a phase when Ishant Sharma’s appearances for India were limited to Test cricket. The selectors thought he was too precious to be lost to the rigors of fast-paced shorter formats of the game. But, like every young cricketer, Ishant wanted to excel in all formats and play as much cricket as possible. (Also Read:  Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kandurata Maroons: Q2 - Match Report ) He got stronger, started to hit the gym regularly and built his self-confidence. As a result, he helped India to the Champions Trophy title with 10 wickets and bowled with tremendous control in the ODIs in West Indies. Now, the 25-year-old pacer has helped the Sunrisers Hyderabad take the first step in the 2013 CLT20 in the right direction by bowling fine four overs for 2-20 against Kandurata Maroons in the second Qualifier. After the match that SRH won by eight wickets (Shikhar Dhawan scored 71) Ishant spoke to clt20.com...

I am Cool and Aggressive Captain: Shikhar Dhawan

Image
Shikhar Dhawan’s life has been running on the fast lane since his phenomenal Test debut six months ago. His Man of the Series winning 363 runs in the Champions Trophy in England helped India win that title, before he slammed a record-breaking 248 for India A against South Africa A in a List A game. In what is another feather in Dhawan’s already colourful cap, he has been named the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the Karbonn Smart Champions League T20 2013. In his first media interaction after landing the captaincy, Dhawan was characteristically calm and confident. When asked to describe his leadership, he replied with his trademark smile, “I am cool and aggressive – aggressive from the inside, cool on the outside”. Here is an account of the conversation with Dhawan and SRH coach Tom Moody: The big decision Shikhar Dhawan:  I have captained the Delhi team for a while now but this is a new challenge. It’s an honour to lead a team like the Sunrisers because it has so...

Shikhar Dhawan to miss Sunrisers Hyderabad's opening Match

Image
Sunrisers Hyderabad, the new IPL outfit, have suffered a blow ahead of the tournament with star player Shikhar Dhawan being ruled out due to injury for at least their opening tie against Pune Warriors, to be held on April 5. "Shikhar Dhawan at this stage will not be available for the first game. We are obviously working closely with the BCCI and the medical team with regard to his progress," Sunrisers coach Tom Moody told reporters here today. "We are hoping that within a couple of weeks he will be available to join the team," he added. Dhawan, who scored fastest ever century on debut in the recently-concluded Test series against Australia, had sustained an injury during the series. Asked how many matches Dhawan is likely to miss, Moody replied: "We don't know as yet. We are hoping that he is going to have a speedy recovery." Stating that the team has a good mix of youth and experience, the coach said that the efforts are being ...
