Statistical highlights: India vs Australia: 3rd Test, Day 5, Mohali

After registering a six-wicket win in the Mohali Test, Team India reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, thanks to an unassailable 3-0 series lead. This victory also marked skipper MS Dhoni’s seventh win against the men from Down Under in as many home Tests – thereby maintaining his 100 percent record against them. Dhoni also broke Sourav Ganguly’s record of most Test wins by an Indian captain against a particular opponent.

Here are these and other stats highlights from Day 5 of the fourth Test of the series:

# For the first time, India have won three successive Tests against Australia in a Test series - by eight wickets at Chennai; by an innings & 135 runs at Hyderabad and by six wickets at Mohali.

# India have accomplished a hat-trick of series wins against Australia on Indian soil for the first time - the results being 2-0 in 2008-09; 2-0 in 2010-11 and 3-0 in 2012-13.

# India have achieved another hat-trick by winning all three Tests against Australia at Mohali - by 320 runs in October 2008; by one wicket in October 2010 and by six wickets in March 2013.

# India have won five, lost one and drawn five out of eleven contested at PCA Stadium, Mohali.

# Australia have lost seven successive overseas Tests to a captain (Mahendra Singh Dhoni) for the first time.

# India have won 23 and lost 38 out of 85 played against Australia - winning % 27.05 (Tied 1 & Drawn 23).

# Under Dhoni's captaincy, India have won 23, lost twelve and drawn eleven out of 46 contested in Tests - winning % 50.00.

# Dhoni has become the first Indian captain to win seven Tests out of ten played against Australia.

# Of the last Ten Tests played by Australia in India, they have lost eight and drawn the remaining three.

# India have won six successive Tests against Australia in India since November 2008.

# Michael Clarke has lost three successive Tests as captain for the first time - all three to India in India in 2012-13.

# Clarke, with 286 runs at an average of 47.66, is the top run-scorer for Australila in the first three Tests of the present series.

# Nathan Lyon (18) has posted his highest score against India, eclipsing the 11 at Chennai last month.  His career-best is 40 not out against the West Indies at Bridgetown in April 2012.

# Phillip Hughes is averaging 39.72 away from home (993 runs in 14 Tests) as compared to his home average of 24.00 (408 runs in 9 Tests).

# Ravindra Jadeja has dismissed Michael Clarke in five innings in the present series - first innings of the Chennai Test followed by both innings of the Hyderabad and Mohali Tests. He has dismissed Peter Siddle three times, followed by Moises Henriques and Kevin Pietersen - two times each.

# Only two bowlers have dismissed Clarke seven times each - Ishant Sharma (India) and Dale Steyn (South Africa).

# Since posting 80 against New Zealand at Brisbane in December 2011, Brad Haddin is without a fifty in nine innings in Tests.

# Haddin has managed just 300 runs at an average of 27.27 in nine Tests against India with 42 not out at Adelaide in January 2012 as his highest score.  

# Ravichandran Ashwin has produced his best bowling performance in a Test series - his tally being 22 at an average of 21.40 in three Tests.  His previous best being 22 at 22.90 vs West Indies in three Tests in 2011-12.

# Ravindra Jadeja has performed quite well in his first four Tests, capturing 20 wickets at 21.90 runs apiece. His tally of 17 wickets at an average of 18.88 is the second highest in the present series.

# Mitchell Starc and Xavier Doherty were involved in a 44-run stand for the tenth wicket. The pair faced 109 balls. In the 2012-13 Chennai Test, Australia's last pair, Henriques and Lloyd had faced 163 balls while recording 66 runs - the most faced by an Australian tenth-wicket pair against India in a Test innings.

# Overall, the 109 balls faced by the above pair is the fifth highest by Australia's last wicket pair - the highest is 217 balls faced by Jason Gillespie and Glenn McGrath while posting 114 against New Zealand at Brisbane in November 2004.

# Murali Vijay has amassed 362 runs at an average of 72.40 - the most by a batsman in the present series, followed by Dhoni (290), Clarke (286) and Pujara (285).
