Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma shared a record 174-run opening stand to help India register an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Ireland in ICC World Cup 2015 Pool B match on Tuesday. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane remained unbeaten on 44 and 33 respectively to take India to the victory target of 260 in just 36.5 overs. The openers - Dhawan and Rohit bettered Sachin Tendulkar and Ajay Jadeja's 163-run stand against Kenya in 1996 to set India's highest opening stand in World Cups. Rohit scored 64 and en route his half century the right-hander completed 4,000 runs in ODIs (132nd match). This was Rohit’s 25th ODI fifty.  Defending champions, India cantered to a 130-run win against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to strengthen their position at the top of the Group B table. Shikhar Dhawan’s (137) partnerships with Virat Kohli for 127 runs and his stand with Ajinkya Rahane (79 0ff 60) helped India set a 308-run target for the Proteas. Mohammad Shami led the attack to keep the Proteas batsmen on a tight leash with disciplined bowling while sharp fielding stifled the batsmen. Defending champions, India kicked-off their ICC World Cup 2015 campaign with a 76-run win over arch rivals Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval. Virat Kohli’s (107) century stands with Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina helped India to 300 despite a collapse in the death overs after opting to bat. Back at No 3, Virat was involved in 129 and 110-run stands with Dhawan and Raina respectively to set the stage for a formidable total on a batting friendly track. A bright and sunny Adelaide Oval was all set to stage the first warm-up game between India & Australia. The sun hats were on, the sunscreen applied in the right proportion and the sunglasses gave a rather ‘cool’ view of the proceedings. Proceedings out in the middle were not that cool enough for India though after Australia elected to bat and posted a total of 371. In reply, India could manage 265 falling short by 106 runs. It all started off in the very first ball of the match as David Warner crashed a Stuart Binny loosner to the covers. With a four-wicket win against India on the fourth day in Brisbane, Australia took a 2-0 lead in the four-Test series. Mitchell Johnson's 4/61 bowled India out for 224 earlier in the day to set-up the match in the hosts' favour. He claimed the Indian middle-order in about half hour's play in the morning with his pace and bounce and backed India into the corner. With Josh Hazlewood accounting for MS Dhoni, the visitors were reduced to 87/5 after resuming on 71/1.
