India v Pakistan, 2nd ODI-2012-13: Statistical Highlights

2nd ODI: India v Pakistan at Kolkata, Jan 3, 2013

After scoring a century in the first ODI of the series at Chennai, Pakistan opener Nasir Jamshed was back in prime form at Kolkata as well. The left-hander, who boasts an outstanding record against India, scored his third ODI century. Incidentally, all his limited overs tons have come against the Men in Blue.
On the back of this performance, Pakistan returned victorious at the Eden Gardens yet again; a venue where they are yet to lose an ODI to India. This win made it 4-0 in favour of the visitors at Kolkata. Here are these and some other stats highlights from today’s game:
This was the fourth one-day international between India and Pakistan at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Pakistan have won all four.
The 141 run-partnership between Nasir Jamshed and Mohammad Hafeez is Pakistan’s best for the opening wicket against India in India. The previous best was 131 between Salman Butt and Shahid Afridi at Kanpur in 2005.
Nasir Jamshed (106) scored his third consecutive ODI hundred against India. He had made 112 at Mirpur in Asia Cup in March 2012 and 101* in the first match of this series at Chennai. Nasir thus became only the second batsman to get three hundreds in three consecutive innings against India after fellow countryman Zaheer Abbas, who did so in 1982-83.
Nasir Jamshed has now aggregated 372 runs (avg 186.00) in four matches against India. His aggregate is the highest for any batsman in his first four ODIs against India. South Africa’s Gary Kirsten held the previous record with 340 runs (avg 113.33).
After 23.4 overs Pakistan were 141 for no loss. In next 24.5 overs they lost 10 wickets while scoring 109 runs.
Pakistan’s collapse from 141 for no loss to 250 all-out is nothing unparalleled at Eden Gardens. In the last ODI here, England were all-out for 176 after being 129 for no loss!
Pakistan’s total of 250 is the third lowest all-out total including a century opening partnership against India. England had a century opening stand of 129 in a total of 176 also at Kolkata in 2011. Sri Lanka had a century opening stand of 103 in a total of 183 at Colombo RPS in 2001.
MS Dhoni scored his third consecutive 50-plus score in ODIs. The sequence: 58 vs Sri Lanka at Pallekele in July 2012, 113* at Chennai in the previous match and 54* in this match.
Kamran Akmal (2 catches and 2 stumpings) became the second Pakistan wicketkeeper to effect four dismissals against India in India. The only other to do so is Moin Khan (on two occasions).
India’s defeat by 85 runs is their worst ever in an ODI at Eden Gardens. Interestingly, India’s previous biggest defeat at Eden Gardens had also came against Pakistan – by 77 runs in the Nehru Cup in 1989 (It may be noted that in the 1996 World Cup semi-final against Sri Lanka India had made 120/8 in reply to Sri Lanka’s 251/8 when match had to be stopped due to crowd trouble. However, Sri Lanka won the match by default and not by an outright run margin)
Nasir Jamshed won his third Man of the Match award in 21 ODIs – his first in 4 matches against India.
Pakistan win by 85 runs
Man-of-the-Match: Nasir Jamshed for a splendid century
Brief scoresPakistan 250 all out in 48.3 overs (N Jamshed 106, M Hafeez 76, I Sharma 3/34, R Jadeja 3/41) beatIndia 165 all out in 48 overs (MS Dhoni 54*, S Ajmal 3/20, J Khan 3/39) by 85 runs
Mohammad Hafeez: "A great performance from Junaid. we are really happy with the effort of the whole team, especially the bowlers. Great feeling to win a series in India. Thanks to the crowd as well, they were supportive till the end."
Presentation ceremony:
Dhoni: "I think the bowlers brought us back in the game, I think when we went in to bat, we lost too many wickets, last 30 overs we needed 180, the key is to have wickets in hand and we never were in a position. Virat has scored runs for us, but one of the top three needs to be with the middle-order, that will make it easy, not that they aren't trying, it happens. We have got the experience in the batting, it is about them coming back to form, overall we have to grow as a team, we are a good fielding side, but we have to bowl well and develop."

Misbah: "I think the team really played well, specially the way openers started, they gavea really, really good start and then the bowlers did the job. I think the way the wicket was playing, I think 300 was on the card the way the openers were playing, otherewise it was not a wicket that was not so easy to score on. I think the bowlers are really doing a great job, especially Junaid who is moving it both ways and asking questions of the batsmen, Irfan has his height, Gul also bowled well today, and Ajmal and Hafeez always delivers for us. Fantastic crowd, I enjoy playing here, it's something you don't have in any other ground in the world."

Nasir Jamshed is the Man of the Match: "I just enjoy my batting, last time I missed the Man of the Match but lucky this time they gave it to me. I just kept a cool mind, and Hafeez played a great innings. Pitch was little bit slow, and I just played according to the ball. It was dream to play in the ground."
