Ranji Trophy 2011-12 Statistical Highlights

Having won their first Ranji title in the 2010-11 season, Rajasthan were unwilling to give it up, making it two wins in two editions. Runners-up Tamil Nadu put up a good fight right through the competition under Lakshmipathy Balaji, but Rajasthan, powered by a Vineet Saxena double-ton in the final, proved to be too good to beat. The 78th season also belonged to some fine individual players who brought glory to their sides in the Elite and Plate groups. J&K’s ID Singh won most Man-of-the-Match awards, while Maharashtra’s AA Darekar took eight wickets in an innings against Hyderabad. Rajasthan’s Robin Bist ended the competition with a staggering 1034 runs while MP’s TP Sudhindra bagged 40 wickets. We bring you a round-up of the statistical highs and lows from the season gone by.

Propelled by Rohit Sharma’s magnificent double-century, India marched to a 153-run win in Kolkata. While Eden Gardens celebrated 150 years, Rohit lit-up the stadium with a well paced 264 off 173 to make the occasion memorable. In doing so, he etched his name in the history books by posting the highest individual score in ODI cricket and became the only batsman to post two double hundreds in the 50-over format till date.
