IPL 2015 Auction: Costliest Buy of IPL 2014 Players are released

Image
Mumbai Indians have released eight players, including the injured Zaheer Khan and sidelined left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha, while Sunrisers Hyderabad have got rid of 10 players, including some of their biggest signings of last year, ahead of the IPL auction expected to be held in January 2015. Zaheer's release was on expected lines since the veteran pace bowler has not been able to recover after breaking down during this year's IPL. Ojha, on the other hand, had struggled to maintain his place in the side. With youngster Shreyas Gopal having impressed in his limited opportunities and seasoned Harbhajan Singh an integral part of the team, Mumbai's restructured team management decided to let go of Ojha. The biggest surprise among the player releases came from Sunrisers. Among the biggest names released by them were Australia opener Aaron Finch, West Indies allrounder Darren Sammy, India's bowlers Irfan Pathan and Amit Mishra. While Finch and Sammy have been le...

Report: Marylebone Cricket Club vs Rest of the World XI at Lord's

Image
Aaron Finch made an unbeaten 181 to steer the MCC to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over the Rest of the World at Lord’s. Australian Finch hit six sixes and 23 fours to wrap up victory with 25 balls to spare, his boundary-laden innings seeing him overshadow the efforts of team-mates Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara. Yuvraj Singh had earlier struck a fine century of his own, making132 to help the Rest of the World manage 293-7 in a star-studded match staged to celebrate the bicentenary of the famous ground. Captain Shane Warne contributed three not out to his team’s cause but was then unable to take to the field after being struck by a beamer from fellow Australian Brett Lee, a blow that was quickly diagnosed as a broken hand that left the leg-spinner watching on from the balcony with his arm in a sling. It had seemed the MCC side would be chasing a much smaller target when they reduced their opponents to 68-5 at the end of the 12th over. Saeed Ajmal was the torme...

The Royal Challengers Bangalore overcame the Delhi Daredevils by eight wickets in what eventually turned out to be an easy run chase for the Garden City franchise. Thanks to a masterful big-hitting display from Yuvraj Singh and skipper Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers achieved the 146-run target with 3.2 overs to spare. ( Also Read:  DD vs RCB - IPL 2014, Match 2: Stats Highlights ) Earlier, RCB won the toss and asked DD to take first strike. Kohli’s bowlers vindicated this decision by shaking the Daredevils’ top order early on. Mitchell Starc accounted for former Royal Challenger Mayank Agarwal’s (6) wicket in the third over of the innings. Soon after that, Albie Morkel, in his first game in an RCB jersey, got rid of the dangerous Dinesh Karthik (0), who could only manage a golden duck. And then, before Manoj Tiwary (1) could stabilise the faltering DD innings, first change bowler, Varun Aaron, had him caught behind. With the scorecard reading 17 for three in 4.1 overs, ...
