Women's World Cup 2013, India v Sri Lanka, Mumbai: Report Sri Lanka claimed a berth in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2013 with a comprehensive 138-run victory over India at the Brabourne Stadium on Tuesday. Outplayed by the Shashikala Siriwardene-led team, India’s first ever loss to Sri Lanka in the ODIs has marked the end of their World Cup campaign. The Mithali Raj-led side will now take on Pakistan for the seventh place play-off in Cuttack on February 7. In a high scoring game at the Brabourne Stadium, England beat India by 32 runs to open their account in the 2013 ICC Women’s World Cup. After the England skipper Charlotte Edwards set up the match with a century, Harmanpreet Kaur took the fight to the opposition with a determined ton as well. Although she was facing an uphill task, the Indian vice-captain rallied on even as the England bowlers maintained a tight grip on the Indian innings and struck at regular intervals. Chasing 273, India were left reeling at 29 for three by Katherine Brunt and Anya Shrubsole. Kamini scored 100 off 146 balls to become the first Indian eve to notch up a century in 50-over World Cup as the hosts piled up a commendable 284 for six after being sent into bat. India Squad Women's World Cup 2013 Wicketkeeper-batsman Karu Jain and allrounder Thirush Kamini have been included in India's 15-member squad for the Women's World Cup to be held in Mumbai. Offspinner Archana Das, who debuted in February 2012 and played nine ODIs this year, has been left out. Twenty-seven-year-old Jain last played an ODI more than four years ago, on India's tour of England. Kamini's last ODI appearance was also against England, in February 2010. The team will be led by Mithali Raj, who was also the captain of the side during the 2005 World Cup in South Africa; India had then finished as the runners-up, their best showing in this tournament. India are placed in Group A along with West Indies, Sri Lanka and three-time champions England. They play their first match against West Indies on January 31 at the Wankhede Stadium.
