I don't want any politics in my game: J&K all-rounder Parvez Rasool

Image
Promising Jammu and Kashmir all-rounder Parveez Rasool today expressed confidence of making it to the Indian cricket team but also made it clear in no uncertain terms that politics should not be associated with his selection. "I have showed my performance and have definite chance to play for India. Insha Allah I will make it, nothing is impossible," Rasool wrote on social networking site Facebook. "I don't want any politics in my game. I don't know how they bring politics into cricket," the 24-year-old said referring to a newspaper report that claimed that the Indian government is understood to be pushing for Rasool's inclusion in the national side with an eye to defuse the tense political situation in the state following the execution of Afzal Guru. This has, understandably, not gone well with the cricketer, who has been dreaming to don the India jersey for years now. Rasool had a good outing for Board President's XI against Aus...

J&K all-rounder Parvez Rassol signs for Pune Warriors India - IPL 6 - 2013

Image
All-rounder Parvez Rassol on Thursday became first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to bag an IPL contract, signing up with Pune Warriors for the 2013 season. Rassol, who was a star performer for the Board President's XI by grabbing seven Australian wickets, was being chased by at least three franchises but the 24-year-old signed on dotted lines for the Sahara Pariwar owned franchise. "A few franchises approached me but it was Pune who approached me first. So it was an ethical decision to join them as they had shown interest much before the Australia match happened. I am very excited and it is an honour to play in the IPL and become the first cricketer from the valley to achieve this feat," an excited Rassol told PTI over phone from Bilaspur where the Jammu and Kashmir squad is based for Vijay Hazare Trophy. According to IPL sources, Kings XI Punjab were chasing Rassol as Chandigarh based franchisee's proximity to Jammu and Kashmir. Since Rassol is ...

Warm-up: Board President XI vs Australia ends in draw

Image
Ambati Rayudu struck a fluent 87 while Jammu and Kashmir youngster Parvez Rassol showed his all-round prowess with an useful batting contribution as the two-day warm-up match between Board President's XI and Australia ended in a tame draw on Wednesday. After Australia were all-out for 241 on Tuesday, the Board President's XI were dismissed for 230 in 68.3 overs at the Guru Nanak College ground. With a result out of question, Australians came out to bat and scored 15 for no loss in their second essay before the umpires decided to call off the match with consent from both the captains. For the Board President's XI, Rayudu top-scored with 87 while Rassol, riding high on his seven-wicket haul chipped in with a handy contribution of 36. Rayudu, fresh from his 156 in the recently concluded Irani Cup game against Mumbai, looked confident from the start but did not get much support from the other top-order batsmen as the home team slumped to 132 for six. It...

Image

"Firstly thanks to Allah and the the selectors who have given me this opportunity. "I haven't signed for an IPL team yet but hopefully if that happens I can do well and maybe play for India too," said 23-year-old Rassol, who recently became first cricketer from the Kashmir Valley to be picked for India 'A' team for a warm-up game against England. He expressed satisfaction at being able to deceive Australian Test players Matthew Wade an...

Warm-up: Board President XI vs Australia - Parveez Rassol took 7-45 Australia all out 241

Image
Young Jammu and Kashmir all-rounder Parvez Rassol announced his arrival at the big stage by recording brilliant figures of seven for 45 against Australia in the first warm-up in Chennai on Tuesday. Rassol wreaked havoc in his three spells as he helped Board President's XI bowl out the visiting side for a modest 241 in 88.3 overs on the opening day at the Guru Nanak College ground. The youngster did expose the now familiar weakness of the Australian batsmen against spin bowling and also presented chief selector Sandeep Patil and co. with an option beyond Ravichandran Ashwin and Harbhajan Singh in the off-spin department. It could not have been a better birthday gift for the immensely talented cricketer from the valley, who recorded his career-best figures a day before his 24th birthday on Wednesday. Rassol did not try anything extraordinary in the 28.3 overs that he sent down during the day as he deceived the batsmen with flighted deliveries and also got appreci...
