Jadeja’s fifty means that out of 22 players in this match, now 21 have scored at least a 50 in their Test career. The only player without a fifty in this Test match is Ishant Sharma. (Also Read: Ravindra Jadeja’s day out)

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (52) became first player to cross 50 thrice in a series while batting at number nine or lower.

During his innings Bhuvneshwar also completed his 200 runs in the series. With 11 wickets already on his name, Bhuvneshwar became first Indian and only the eighth player in Test annals to aggregate 200 runs and 10 wickets in first two Tests of a series. Others to do so are: England’s Billy Barnes, Australia’s George Giffen, South Africa’s Aubrey Faulkner, Pakistan’s Mushtaq Mohammad and Wasim Akram; and New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori.

Bhuvneshwar has now scored a fifty and taken a five-wicket innings haul in back to back matches. He had scored 58 and 63* besides taking 5 for 82 at Trent Bridge. He is only the third player after England’s Ian Botham and New Zealand’s Richard Hadlee to score a fifty and take a five-wicket haul in consecutive Tests.

India gave England a victory target of 319 runs. Of the previous 20 instances when India were defending a fourth innings target of 300 or more, they won 11, drew 8 and lost only one. The defeat came at Perth in 1977-78 when Australia chased down a target of 339 with two wickets to spare.

Only once before have England chased down a target of 319 or more in the fourth innings – against Australia at Melbourne in 1928-29.

Alastair Cook has now played 27 innings without scoring a hundred. This equals his worst such streak in Test cricket. Cook had a sequence of 27 innings between March 2008 and 2009 when he did not reach three-figure mark even once. However, on that occasion Cook’s average was 37.19 as against 23.62 in the current streak.

Cook, however, completed his 4000 runs in Test matches in England during his innings. He became eighth batsman to accomplish this feat.

Cook was dismissed off the bowling of Ishant Sharma for the eighth time in his Test career. Ishant now holds the record of dismissing Cook on most occasions along with Ryan Harris and Mitchell Johnson.

The catch of counterpart Alastair Cook gave MS Dhoni his 58th dismissal against England. He has now made most dismissals for India against a particular country. Interestingly Dhoni himself hold the previous Indian record, with 57 dismissals against Australia.

MS Dhoni has never lost a Test defending a fourth innings target of 100 or more. Of the nine such occasions India won four, while five were drawn!
