The Teams
India
After bidding an emotional goodbye to Sachin Tendulkar from Test cricket, the core group of the Indian team will now focus on the short ODI series. The arrival of limited overs specialists like Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh will add freshness and flamboyance to the batting while MS Dhoni would hope Ravindra Jadeja’s shoulder is strong enough to carry the responsibility of the all-rounder.
The pressure though will lie on the young battery of pace bowlers. While Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have booked their place in India’s best Playing XI, Jaydev Unadkat will be fighting for a spot. Vinay Kumar, who has replaced injured Dhawal Kulkarni, might not be the first choice, given his poor show in the previous ODI series, against Australia.
West Indies
The visitors will be desperate to put their abysmal show in the Test series behind them. Change in leadership and the fact that West Indies’ strength is inversely proportional to the length of a cricket match, gives them hope of going back home with a win.
The return of world-class short-form players like captain, Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Narine, and a very experienced Ravi Rampaul will give the Windies a huge shot in the arm.
Key Players
India
Rohit Sharma has been in enviable form since the last couple of months, churning out runs in all three formats. With back-to-back centuries in his first two Tests and the Man of the Series award to boot, Rohit will be itching to hold a bat again – this time, opening the innings with Shikhar Dhawan. The opening stand will be key for India.
West Indies
Chris Gayle looked completely out of sorts in the two Tests. But the left-handed opener is a different player against the white ball. His team will want him to regain his touch by being patient in the beginning and then bringing out his A game.
