The much talked about game of the first round of Ranji Trophy 2013-14 between Haryana and Mumbai witnessed Sachin Tendulkar come out to bat for Mumbai but walk back after scoring just five runs and also saw veteran Ajay Jadeja make a comeback to the domestic circuit. In another Group A match, Punjab captain Harbhajan Singh claimed six wickets against Odisha to tip the balance in his team’s favour. Here is the round-up for Day 1 of the first round: 
Group A 
Haryana vs Mumbai: Mumbai were trailing by 34 runs with six wickets in hand. Opting to field first at the Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium, the Zaheer Khan-led team bowled the hosts out for 134 in the first innings. While the captain claimed one wicket, Abhishek Nayar continuing in his good form picked four for 38 and Javed Khan took two. In reply the visitors lost opener Kaustubh Pawar, Wasim Jaffer, Sachin Tendulkar and Nayar on Day 1. Veteran batsman Sachin Tendulkar was castled for five by Haryana pacer Mohit Sharma. When stumps were called Ajinkya Rahane was batting on 44 with Dhawal Kulkarni on 1. 
Odisha vs Punjab: After electing to field and bowling Odisha out for 205 at the PCA Stadium, Punjab were trailing by 194 runs in their first innings. Punjab skipper Harbhajan Singh scripted the opposition’s downfall with a six-wicket haul, while Sandeep Sharma claimed two.
In response openers Jiwanjot Singh and Ravi Inder Singh had taken the team to 11 when play ended.
Vidarbha vs Gujarat: The Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground witnessed the hosts being skittled out for a paltry 85 after Gujarat opted to field. Including opener Akshay Kolhar, five Vidrabha batsmen returned to the dressing room without opening their accounts. Gujarat’s Rush Kalaria claimed five, while Jasprit Bumrah picked four as they ran through the home team’s line-up in 32.4 overs.
In reply Gujarat has posted 153 for three with Smit Patel scoring 73 before being trapped lbw by Sumit Ruikar, who also removed the key wicket of Manprit Juneja.
Jharkhand vs Delhi: No play
