The Sri Lanka Under-19 were leading by 64 runs with five wickets in hand in the second innings at the end of third day’s play in the second four-day match against India Under-19.
The home team, who were trailing by 170 runs when played ended on Day 2, carefully worked towards overcoming the deficit and taking a marginal lead. Resuming their innings on 11 for no loss, they lost their opener Minod Bhanuka after adding just 16 runs to the overnight score. Hashan Dumindu and Kavindu Kuasekara then watchfully played out the first session taking SL U19 to 66 without losing more wickets before lunch.
While Kulasekara was the first to depart in the second session, followed by Dumindu 15 overs later, the middle order rallied on to help the hosts take a lead. Skipper Kusal Mendis played a diligently en route his 82-ball 65, before being sent back by Chama Milind. Sadeera Samarawickrama continued to anchor the innings after the captain’s dismissal and was unbeaten on 53 off 122 balls at stumps. He was ably supported by lower-order bat Priyamal Perera, who remained unbeaten on 40 off 86 balls to help take SL U19 to 245 for the loss of five wickets when stumps were called.
Milind took three of the five opposition wickets that fell on Day 3, while Pankaj Jaiswal and Aamir Gani took a wicket each.
