Irfan, who made a comeback to the Indian team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 after a decent outing in the Indian Premier League, was one of four players who didn't feature in the team's victorious campaign that culminated with a five-run win over England in the final in Birmingham on June 23 (Sunday). Irfan, who has battled a string of injuries in the past, played in Baroda's first match of the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy season in November before picking up a knee injury that forced him out of India's two One-Day International assignments against Pakistan and England earlier this year, prior to the Champions Trophy.
Shami, who has four wickets in five ODIs, was originally included in the 21-man shortlist before the list was pruned. He was last seen in action for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2013.
The tri-series involving the hosts West Indies and Sri Lanka starts on June 28.
