What
Match 10 of the ICC Champions Trophy, 2013, between India and Pakistan
When
Saturday, June 15, 2013
Where
Edgbaston, Birmingham, England
The Teams
India
Why fix what isn’t broken? India will go into their third match of the tournament with this mindset and hence, in all probability, will field an unchanged side. After emphatic wins over South Africa and West Indies, if there’s one area that MS Dhoni will look at for improvement, it is the death bowling. The Indian pacers need to bring their subcontinent bowling expertise into the picture while bowling towards the end of the innings, when the wicket has settled and the ball stops moving in the air. If at all the team management decides to make a change, it could be the inclusion of Vinay Kumar in place of Umesh Yadav. (Also Read: MS Dhoni & Co must maintain winning momentum: Sunil Gavaskar)
Pakistan
All hopes of making the semi-finals have been lost for Pakistan after defeats in their first two matches. However, expect the wounded lions to fight hard for their pride against their archrivals. One of the strongest bowling sides in the tournament, Pakistan have been a batting disappointment with totals of 170 all-out and 167 all-out in their first two games. The sheer talent of opener Nasir Jamshed and the doggedness of skipper Misbah-ul-Haq have proved inadequate for the mercurial team. The match against India promises to be a mouth-watering contest between Pakistani bowlers and Indian batsmen. (Also Read: MS Dhoni Interview ahead of Champions Trophy 2013)
Key Players
India
The new opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma has been the story of India’s performance so far in this tournament. Shikhar’s uninhibited strokeplay and Rohit’s lazy elegance have complemented each other perfectly to lay a solid match-winning foundation for India in both their matches. The prospect of watching Shikhar – who scored centuries in the first two matches – take on the Pakistani pacers is drool worthy.
Pakistan
The giant fast bowler, Mohammad Irfan got the Indian batsmen hopping and skipping when Pakistan played an ODI and T20I series in India earlier. With the two sides meeting again, it will be interesting to see if he continues to torment them or if the Indians have figured out a way to deal with the cricket ball coming at them from around eight-feet height.
