Chasing 151, KXIP lost Mandeep Singh (0) early as Dale Steyn had him caught by Cameron White off a leading edge. Shaun Marsh got KXIP rolling with two boundaries off Steyn in the third over. Adam Gilchrist then slammed two boundaries off Ishant Sharma as KXIP made 41 from the Power-Play. Gilchrist was given a chance as Parthiv Patel missed a stumping opportunity off Vihari in the seventh over.

Darren Sammy, introduced into the attack in the eighth over, struck with two wickets in two balls as he had Marsh (18) caught in the deep by Thisara Perera before Gilchrist (26) dragged him onto the stumps. Sammy then had David Miller (6) caught by White at cover. At the halfway stage, KXIP were 54 for four, requiring 97 more runs.

Amit Mishra was taken apart for 18 runs in the 14th over as Rajagopal Sathish whacked two sixes and a boundary. Needing 58 from 30 balls, Luke Pomersbach was put down by Karan Sharma off Perera. Sathish (25), who was striking the ball well, was then run out by Perera, triggering a collapse. Piyush Chawla (0) departed soon after off Perera, before Steyn bowled Praveen Kumar (1). Harmeet Singh (3) and Parvinder Awana (0) fell in the final over as KXIP finished 30 runs short.

Earlier KXIP won the toss and put SRH in. Parthiv Patel was given a chance on 2 when Praveen Kumar couldn’t latch on to a touch opportunity on the line and tipped the ball over the boundary. Harmeet Singh got KXIP their first breakthrough as he caught Shikhar Dhawan (15) off his own bowling. Sandeep Sharma making his IPL debut then had Hanuma Vihari (5) caught at point. The debutant jolted SRH getting two wickets in the eighth over; he first trapped White (10) leg before, before bowling Biplab Samantray (0).

Sammy (0) was given out LBW off Piyush Chawla to leave SRH reeling at 52 for 5 in the ninth over. Patel was lucky again as Gilchrist put him down on 36 off Chawla. Karan Sharma (22) slammed a six and a boundary off Harmeet before falling the next over, top edging a pull off Parvinder Awana. Perera (32*) who was dropped by Mandeep Singh when he had a solitary run against his name, smashed a six off Awana and another off Kumar. Patel (61) joined in with a six off Harmeet before being run out in the 19th over. SRH made 150 for seven.

Man-of-the-Match: Parthiv Patel

Brief Scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad 150 for 7 (Parthiv Patel 61, Sandeep Sharma 3-21) defeated Kings XI Punjab 120 for 9 (Luke Pomersbach 33*, Darren Sammy 4- 22) by 30 runs.

Presentation

Cameron White: "It has been the tale of our season, fighting, scrapping away, then bowl well to win this. Parthiv saw the innings through, then Perera put the icing on the cake. It was pretty even, but we need to bowl well in the first six and with Steyn, who are likely to do that. We still need to keep winning as many games as possible."

Parthiv Patel is the Man of the Match:"I was told to 15-16 overs, and I wasn't worried about run rate. It was skidding from one end and was damp at the other, was a difficult wicket to bat on. We wanted to get to 130 for our bowlers to have a chance. Then Thisara came in and hit those sixes, that is why it was important for me to stick around till then. If we can score 150-160 every time, we can beat any side.'

Adam Gilchrist: "Parthiv played very well on a wicket that did a little bit. Thisara came around and then changed it with a couple of big hits. The wicket firmed up a bit when we came around, and we should have been able to get this, but we lost a lot of wickets. Shaun came in and attacked from the start and me and him had a good partnership going, but we lost out way after that. We would like to be party spoilers from now on"

Thisara Perera gets an award for hitting two sixes, he also gets an award for being innovative thinker by running out R Sathish.
