Michael Clarke has established a record for the highest individual innings by an Australian captain against India in India in Tests, obliterating Ricky Ponting's 123 at Bangalore in October 2008.

Clarke's 130 is the fourth highest by an Australian player at Chepauk - the top three innings being 210 by Dean Jones in September 1986; 203 by Matthew Hayden in March 2001 and 162 by Allan Border in September 1979.

Clarke's aforesaid innings is the second highest by a visiting captain at Chepauk, next only to Imran Khan's 135 not out in February 1987.  Overall, his innings is the fourth highest by a captain at this venue.  Sunil Gavaskar had recorded two hundreds at this venue as captain - 166 against Pakistan in January 1980 and 155 against Sri Lanka in September 1982.
