Mahendra Singh Dhoni has established an Indian record for the highest individual innings by a captain. His outstanding 224 has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's 217 against New Zealand at Ahmedabad in October 1999.

Dhoni's 224 is the third highest by a wicketkeeper in Tests - the top two innings being 232 not out by Andy Flower (Zimbabwe) against India at Nagpur in November 2000 and 230 by Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) against Pakistan at Lahore in March 2002.

Ravichandran Ashwin (12/193) has recorded his second instance of ten wickets or more in a Test match - his career-best figures being 12 for 85 against New Zealand at Hyderabad in 2012.

Ashwin's seventh five-wicket haul is his second against Australia - all at home.

Virat Kohli's 107 is his second highest score against Australia, next only to the 116 at Adelaide in January 2012.  He has registered hundreds against Australia in successive Tests.

Kohli has recorded back to back hundreds for the first time in Tests - 103 against England at Nagpur in December 2012 and 107 against Australia at Chennai on Sunday.

Sachin Tendulkar took his run-aggregate at Chepauk to 957 at an average of 87.00 in ten Tests - the second highest tally at this venue, next only to Sunil Gavaskar's 1018 at an average of 59.88 in 12 Tests.

Tendulkar is averaging 95.75 against Australia at Chepauk - his aggregate being 383 in five innings (three Tests) - the sequence of scores being 4 & 155 not out in March 1998; 126 & 17 in March 2001 and 81 in February 2013.
