India A vs England XI, Warm up - Day 2: Match Report

Mumbai, Oct 31: Powered by skipper Alastair Cook’s unbeaten century, England XI were trailing by 83 runs at stumps in their three-day match against India A.

In reply to the Suresh Raina-led India A’s first innings score of 369, the visitors posted 286 for the loss of four wickets at the end of Day 2 at the Brabourne Stadium.  Leading from the front, Cook anchored the innings with 112 not out. Although they lost opener Nick Compton for naught in the second over, Jonathon Trott who then joined the captain in the middle scored a half-century before being castled by Raina.  The duo stitched in 95-run partnership before Trott departed for 56.

A while later, Kevin Pietersen, who had replaced him at the crease, scooped the ball back to Yuvraj Singh to return to the pavilion after contributing 23.  In his next over, the left-arm spinner claimed the key wicket of Ian Bell to leave the opposition on 133 for the loss of four.

However, Samit Patel who then came to the crease went about the task of grafting runs with Cook and was unbeaten on 82 off 145 when play ended and his unbroken stand with Cook was worth 153.
