India A vs England XI, Warm up - Day 1: Match Report
Timely half-centuries from Manoj Tiwary, Abhinav Mukund and Yuvraj Singh helped India A end Day 1 of their three-day match against England XI at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
Earlier in the day, India A skipper Suresh Raina won the toss and chose to take first strike. While Murali Vijay (7) was run-out with the score on 25, the other opener, Abhinav Mukund scored a well-compiled 73 (off 83 balls) even as Ajinkya Rahane (4) was dismissed by Tim Bresnan a while later. Vijay put together a quick 56-run stand with Yuvraj Singh, before he was finally dismissed by Graeme Swann.
Yuvraj, however, continued to score freely as he brought up his half-century. The southpaw made 59 off 80 balls, which included seven fours and four big hits. He was stumped by Matt Prior off the bowling of Swann. Both Raina and Wriddhiman Saha were dismissed for individual scores of 20 by Samit Patel and James Anderson respectively.
With India A struggling at 190/6, Irfan Pathan joined Manoj Tiwary in the middle. The duo resurrected the India A innings with a 110-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Pathan (46) did a great job of holding fort at one end, before Swann trapped him leg before wicket. Vinay Kumar, the next man in, also did well to support Tiwary, who was eventually bowled by Bresnan for 93. Tailender Ashok Dinda (0) was the last man to fall on the day. Vinay Kumar (25) and Parvinder Awana (11) remained unbeaten as the umpires called for stumps after 90 overs with India A reaching 369/9.
For England XI, Bresnan was the star with the ball; the pacer picked up three wickets for 59 runs in his 20 overs. Even Swann picked up three scalps while giving away 90 runs in his 23 overs. Anderson and Patel picked up a wicket each.
Brief Scores:
Day 1: India A 368/9 in 90 overs (Mukund 73, Yuvraj Singh 59, Tiwary 93; Bresnan 59/3, Swann 90/3)
