R Ashwin got 6 Wickets Vs New Zealand 2012:

R-Ashwin

R Ashwin’s figures of 12 for 85 are the best ever by an Indian bowler against New Zealand, beating S.Venkataraghavan’s 12 for 152 at Delhi in 1964-65.

Last time an Indian spinner took 10 wickets in a match in India was in 2005 when Harbhajan Singh took 10 for 141 v Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad

Ashwin’s figures are, in fact, the best by any spinner against New Zealand. England’s Derek Underwood held the previous record with figures of 12 for 97 at Christchurch in 1970-71.

Ashwin needed 21.66 balls per wicket on an average. Among all Indian spinners taking 10 wickets in a Test, only Narendra Hirwani had a better strike-rate (12.68) while picking up 16 for 136 against West Indies at Chennai in 1987-88.
Ashwin’s figures are the eighth best by an Indian spinner in Test cricket.

Ashwin now holds the Indian record for conceding the fewest runs while picking up a 10-wicket match haul. Irfan Pathan held the previous record with figures of 11 for 96 against Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2004-05.

Ashwin has now taken 43 wickets in seven Tests. His tally is the highest by any Indian bowler after his first seven Tests. Narendra Hirwani held the previous record with 42 wickets.
