Report: AUSTRALIA VS INDIA - 4th TEST, DAY 5, Sydney Cricket Ground

Ajinkya Rahane helped India pull-off a draw in a nerve-wracking last session after Murali Vijay's (80) departure in the fourth over of the session triggered a mini collapse. With the fourth Test of the series ending in a draw at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia won the Border-Gavaskar, 2014-15 Trophy 2-0.  (Also Read:  HIGHLIGHTS: AUSTRALIA VS INDIA - 4th TEST, DAY 5, Sydney Cricket Ground ) Chasing 349, after Australia declared their innings on the overnight total of 251/6, Vijay led India's reply. The batsman, whose name is fast becoming synonymous with patience, held his nerve through tricky passages of time and anchored the innings for over two sessions to keep the visitors in fray. A short while later, with 148 runs needed, Virat Kohli (46) fell to Mitchell Starc, who also claimed Suresh Raina for a duck and Lyon picked Wriddhiman Saha for naught. Claiming wickets at regular intervals Australia seized the momentum. However, ably supported by Ravichandran Ashwin an...

Report: Australia vs India, 3rd Test, Day 2, Melbourne | Boxing Day Test

India were trailing by 422 runs in the first innings with nine wickets in hand at stumps on Day 2 in reply to Australia’s 530 runs. Steven Smith marched Australia to a commanding position with an authoritative 192-run knock. While he had watchfully built the innings to steer Australia to a comfortable position yesterday, Smith changed gears on the second day and plundered the Indian bowling attack. Complemented by the lower-order, Australia’s stand-in captain backed India into the corner.  (Also See:  HIGHLIGHTS: AUSTRALIA VS INDIA - 3rd TEST, DAY 2, Melbourne ) Once again in the series, Murali Vijay (55*) led India's response and had guided the visitors to 108/1 at stumps. The opener was ably complemented by Cheteshwar Pujara who was batting on 25 at the other end when play ended for the day. Opening the innings with Shikhar Dhawan, Vijay struck Mitchell Johnson to the ropes down the ground in the third over to set the tone of the innings. Although tested by the Johnson-l...

Murali Vijay’s concentration was most impressive: Ajinkya Rahane

Soon after lunch on the first day at the Gabba, India slipped from 100 for 1 to 137 for 2, losing their middle-order rocks, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli.    (Also See:  Report: Australia vs India, 2nd Test, Day 1, The Gabba, Brisbane ) The temperatures were soaring, humidity was taking its toll. Being on the field in itself was an arduous task, let alone facing Mitchell Johnson and company on the bounciest and fastest wicket in Australia. India needed two men who could dig in there, fight the odds and put mind over matter. Enter messrs M Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane – two batsmen whose natural game is to fluently play their shots. The gorgeous shots did come, often regularly in the final session, but they were more a reward for their doggedness rather than an act of nonchalance. The two put on 124 very solid yet attractive runs for the fourth wicket at 4.50 runs per over. Rahane, happily played a second fiddle to the “in zone” Vijay, while also showing his class with...

Propelled by Murali Vijay’s 144, India were 311/4 at stumps on Day 1 in Brisbane with Ajinkya Rahane (75*) and Rohit Sharma (26*) at the crease. While Rahane dominated later in the last session, Vijay guided India to a commanding position with a masterful knock. The opener once again played the role of a sheet anchor after MS Dhoni, back at the helm of the team elected to bat. The opener showed poise as he shouldered the responsibility of building the innings. Although he took his chances, Vijay settled into the role that he is fast making his own and impressed with some beautifully timed strokes until he was sent back in the third session.  (Also See:  HIGHLIGHTS: AUSTRALIA VS INDIA - 2nd TEST, DAY 1, The Gabba, Brisbane ) Earlier Vijay kept the first session in balance as he stitched an opening stand with Shikhar Dhawan. The pair watchfully negotiated the Mitchell Johnson-led attack which was not always as precise to lay a foundation. The Indian openers posted their firs...

Report: Australia vs India, 1st Test, Day 5, Adelaide

Image
India lost the closely fought first Test by 48 runs after Australia declared on their overnight score of 290/5 at the Adelaide Oval. Chasing 364, Murali Vijay (99) and Virat Kohli (141) had kept India in the fray with a clinically compiled 185-run stand for the third wicket until Nathan Lyon claimed the former. India’s stand-in skipper, who had kept the team in reckoning with a carefully planned century couldn’t find an able ally after Murali Vijay’s departure for 99 in the last session. Having ended the flourishing stand that threatened to take the game away from the hosts, the off-spinner continued to strike at the other end. He eventually accounted for Kohli as the hosts made their way back in the game and finished with seven in the innings. (Also See:  HIGHLIGHTS: 1st TEST, DAY 5 - AUSTRALIA VS INDIA, Adelaide Oval ) Earlier, with 16 runs on the board, India lost Shikhar Dhawan to a Mitchell Johnson bouncer that skimmed past the batsman handing an easy catch to wicketkeeper...
