Some high intensity bowling and fielding, followed by some intelligent batting, from the Northern Knights put paid to the Mumbai Indians’ hopes of progressing to the main draw of the Oppo CLT20 2014. After being put in to bat in the final qualifying stage match, the Mumbai Indians managed a modest 132 runs on the board, which the Kiwi side chased down in 17.2 overs, losing only four wickets in the process.  ( Also Read:  MATCH REPORT: Q5 – SOUTHERN EXPRESS V LAHORE LIONS ) The result meant the Northern Knights and the Lahore Lions, who occupied first and second spots in the table at the end of the qualifying stage, progress to the tournament proper. MUMBAI INDIANS V SOUTHERN EXPRESS - CLT20 2014 | MI vs SE

Image
Powered by a rollicking century stand between openers Michael Hussey and Lendl Simmons, the Mumbai Indians registered a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Southern Express in the fourth qualifying stage match of the Oppo CLT20 2014. Asked to chase 162, the Mumbai Indians got past the finish line in the 17th over.  ( Also Read:  MATCH REPORT: Q3 - NORTHERN KNIGHTS V LAHORE LIONS ) There must have been significant pressure on the Mumbai Indians openers after their bowlers and fielders were found wanting in the closing stages of the Southern Express innings. However, the experienced Hussey, in the company of Simmons, ensured there was no panic early on. Both batsmen were aided by the lack of discipline from the Southern Express bowlers (who bowled as many as eight wides on the day) and feasted on the loose deliveries that came their way. Boundaries were a regular feature of the 139-run partnership; there were 15 hits to the boundary and four over the ropes during the period b...

A clinical all-round performance from the Lahore Lions saw them emerge victorious against the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 of the Oppo CLT20 2014. Set to chase a modest 136 against a testing and experienced bowling attack, the Lahore Lions played smart cricket, timed their acceleration perfectly and ensured they finished the contest with two points on the board.  ( Also Read:  MATCH REPORT: Q1– NORTHERN KNIGHTS V SOUTHERN EXPRESS ) There wasn’t too much action in the first four overs of the run-chase. Ahmed Shehzad set the ball rolling picking up two boundaries in the fifth over and then got stuck into young Jasprit Bumrah hitting him for two boundaries and a six in the following over. The introduction of Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha put the brakes on the scoring yet again. The six overs bowled by the two spinners in tandem soon after the field restrictions were relaxed yielded only 28 runs. Shehzad (34 from 33 balls) perished to Ojha in the eighth over, while Nasir ...
