The Mumbai Indians faced a stiff equation to displace the Otago Volts from second place in Group A and progress into the semi-finals. They needed a special performance from one of their players, and that match-winning knock came from skipper Rohit Sharma. A swashbuckling century from opener Neil Broom powered the Otago Volts to a commanding 62-run victory over the Perth Scorchers in Match 8 of the Karbonn Smart CLT20 2013. On a smashing pitch at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the Volts, powered by Broom’s unbeaten 117 posted 242 – the highest total in the Champions League T20 – and then restricted their opponents to 180. Match 4 of the Karbonn Smart CLT20 2013 turned out to be a damp squib after heavy showers forced the game to be abandoned without a ball being bowled. The two teams - Highveld Lions and Perth Scorchers – for who this match was their first outing in the competition, had to be content with two points each. Earlier in the evening, the match looked all set for an on-time start. The Highveld Lions skipper Alviro Petersen won the toss and put the Scorchers in to bat. However, within minutes of the toss, the skies opened up and there was a deluge. The rain did not relent for more than an hour, and small puddles across the field slowly turned to huge ponds of water. With the rain not relenting, the Match Officials had no option but to abandon the match.
