Report: AUSTRALIA VS INDIA - 4th TEST, DAY 5, Sydney Cricket Ground

Ajinkya Rahane helped India pull-off a draw in a nerve-wracking last session after Murali Vijay's (80) departure in the fourth over of the session triggered a mini collapse. With the fourth Test of the series ending in a draw at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia won the Border-Gavaskar, 2014-15 Trophy 2-0.  (Also Read:  HIGHLIGHTS: AUSTRALIA VS INDIA - 4th TEST, DAY 5, Sydney Cricket Ground ) Chasing 349, after Australia declared their innings on the overnight total of 251/6, Vijay led India's reply. The batsman, whose name is fast becoming synonymous with patience, held his nerve through tricky passages of time and anchored the innings for over two sessions to keep the visitors in fray. A short while later, with 148 runs needed, Virat Kohli (46) fell to Mitchell Starc, who also claimed Suresh Raina for a duck and Lyon picked Wriddhiman Saha for naught. Claiming wickets at regular intervals Australia seized the momentum. However, ably supported by Ravichandran Ashwin an...

Australia had extended their lead to 348 on Day 4 and were 251/6 at stumps after bowling India out for 475 in the afternoon.  (Also Read:  HIGHLIGHTS: AUSTRALIA VS INDIA - 4th TEST, DAY 4, Sydney Cricket Ground ) Lasting for a little over a session and a half, the visitors added 133 runs to their overnight score. After Virat Kohli’s departure in the fifth over of the day, Ravichandran Ashwin led the lower-order in reducing the deficit with a well compiled half-century. The all-rounder then returned to pose problems for Australia with the ball. But despite his four-for, Australia finished the day on top. The Indian pacers provided little support from the other end and with Umesh Yadav being clobbered by the batsmen the hosts dominated the proceedings. Chris Rogers (56) and Steven Smith (71) milked the pacers while Joe Burns’ (66 off 56) helped Australia take the lead past 300.  Ashwin claimed David Warner and Shane Watson upfront as hosts looked to add quick runs to th...

India were trailing by 230 runs at the end of third day’s play against Australia in the last Test of the series. In a determined display, Lokesh Rahul (110) and Virat Kohli propelled India to 342/5 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. While batting watchfully for over three sessions, the opener scored his maiden Test ton under pressure to keep India in the reckoning. His 97-run stand with Rohit Sharma included the crucial period in the morning, and was then involved in a 141-run stand with his captain. Kohli who has been in sublime touch on the tour scored his fourth hundred of the series as he rallied on and became the first player to score three successive centuries as captain.  (Also Read:  HIGHLIGHTS: AUSTRALIA VS INDIA - 4th TEST, DAY 1, Sydney Cricket Ground ) Kohli was batting on 140 with Wriddhiman Saha when play ended on Day 3. 501 runs behind, India had their task cut out when play resumed on the third morning.
