Ravichandran Ashwin Love bowling to Chris Gayle

Image
On a wicket that offered a lot of bounce, it was R Ashwin who made optimum use of the conditions at the WACA, registering career best figures of 4 for 25 against the UAE. With three wins in as many games, India next meet West Indies at the WACA on Friday. For Ashwin though, preparations remained the same irrespective of the opposition. “In terms of approach or preparation towards the game it is going to be the same because we are prepared for every other team the way we have prepared for the big teams,” Ashwin said. “It is not going to be very different and I am pretty confident about executing my skill tomorrow.”  When asked if he had any specific plans to keep Gayle quiet, Ashwin was of the view that his main motive was to take wickets against batsmen who have been a dominating force in international cricket. “It is not just about Chris Gayle, it is about any other hard-hitting batsman when it comes to my bowling. As far as I am concerned I will look to get their wicket and g...

Report & Highlights: India vs UAE – ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

Image
With a nine-wicket against the United Arab Emirates at the Western Australia Cricket Association Ground in Perth, India continued their winning streak in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. This is the first time that India have won their first three matches in a World Cup. After UAE elected to bat, Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed the openers to leave them on 13 for two. Ravichandran Ashwin then wrecked the middle-order to put India in commanding position. The off-spinner returned with his best ODI figures, 4 for 25, Yadav claimed 2 for 15 and Ravindra Jadeja picked 2 for 23 to help wrap up the opposition for a meager 102 runs. Rohit Sharma (57*) then took India across the line with a 75-run unbroken stand with Virat Kohli.  Yadav hit the deck hard from the word go and struck in his first over to send back opener Andri Raffaelo. The bouncer took the top edge of the bat through to the wicketkeeper. In his next, the pacer would have had Amjad Ali back in the pavilion to...

Report & Highlights: India vs South Africa – ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

Image
Defending champions, India cantered to a 130-run win against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to strengthen their position at the top of the Group B table. Shikhar Dhawan’s (137) partnerships with Virat Kohli for 127 runs and his stand with Ajinkya Rahane (79 0ff 60) helped India set a 308-run target for the Proteas. Mohammad Shami led the attack to keep the Proteas batsmen on a tight leash with disciplined bowling while sharp fielding stifled the batsmen. After the pacer’s 5-1-15-1 first spell set the tone, the opposition’s batting line-up disintegrated chasing the challenging target. Shami and Mohit Sharma picked two each while R Ashwin claimed three as SA folded for 177 runs.   Earlier, after MS Dhoni elected to bat first, India were tied down by Dale Steyn who started the proceedings with a maiden to keep the batsmen under the pressure in the mandatory powerplay. It was on the tenth ball of the innings that Dhawan opened India’s account by hitting Ve...

Report: AUSTRALIA VS INDIA - 4th TEST, DAY 4, Sydney Cricket Ground

Australia had extended their lead to 348 on Day 4 and were 251/6 at stumps after bowling India out for 475 in the afternoon.  (Also Read:  HIGHLIGHTS: AUSTRALIA VS INDIA - 4th TEST, DAY 4, Sydney Cricket Ground ) Lasting for a little over a session and a half, the visitors added 133 runs to their overnight score. After Virat Kohli’s departure in the fifth over of the day, Ravichandran Ashwin led the lower-order in reducing the deficit with a well compiled half-century. The all-rounder then returned to pose problems for Australia with the ball. But despite his four-for, Australia finished the day on top. The Indian pacers provided little support from the other end and with Umesh Yadav being clobbered by the batsmen the hosts dominated the proceedings. Chris Rogers (56) and Steven Smith (71) milked the pacers while Joe Burns’ (66 off 56) helped Australia take the lead past 300.  Ashwin claimed David Warner and Shane Watson upfront as hosts looked to add quick runs to th...
