Delhi Daredevils captain Kevin Pietersen will miss the side’s opening game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday. Pietersen is believed to have injured his finger during a practice drill and will be forced to watch the game from the sidelines. “He did not play in the practice match and he won’t be considered for tomorrow’s game. Dinesh Karthik will captain the side,” Delhi Daredevils’ assistant coach, Eric Simmons, confirmed. Kevin Pietersen will captain the all new look Delhi Daredevils during the seventh edition of the Pepsi Indian Premier League. Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik would be the vice-captain. Pietersen, the 33-year-old, has been a prolific scorer in all forms of the game. The former England skipper has been exceptionally sensational in the T20s and was named the ‘Man of the Tournament’ in the 2010 World T20 Championship for helping England bag its maiden World T20 crown with his swashbuckling batting. Pietersen joined Delhi Daredevils in 2012 and made an impact with his 8 match outing amassing 305 runs with an average of 61 including a match winning ton against earstwhile Deccan Chargers to help the team top the league standings.
