India's three-wicket loss to England cost them the spot in the final of the ODI Tri-series. Although India were bowled out for 200, the target proved to be competitive given the dual nature of the pitch. After Mohit Sharma set the ball rolling with the wicket of Ian Bell with just 14 runs on the board, Stuart Binny claimed three to leave the opposition on 66/5. But, James Taylor (82) and Jos Buttler (67) forged a 125-run stand to salvage the game for England. India opened their account in the Carlton Mid ODI Tri-series with two points from the washed out game against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The MS Dhoni-led side will now have to beat England to qualify for the final against the hosts who are already through. The fifth match of the series had to be called off due to heavy showers after only 16 overs of play.   Earlier, asked to bat, India opened the batting with Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane in the absence of Rohit Sharma after a delayed start due to rain. But after just 16 balls of play a steady drizzle interrupted play and when it resumed, the match was reduced to 44 overs-a-side. And couple of overs later, India lost their first wicket. India lost their second match of the Carlton Mid ODI series to England by nine wickets in Brisbane. After MS Dhoni’s side succumbed to the Steven Finn-James Anderson attack for 153, Ian Bell took England to victory with an unbeaten 88. The opener was ably assisted in the chase by James Taylor (56*).  Finn and bounce were India’s undoing after electing to bat at the Gabba. Using the conditions to his advantage, the pacer left India tottering on 67/5 with his first three wickets after Anderson had accounted for Shikhar Dhawan in the third over of the day. Although Dhoni and Stuart Binny painstakingly worked to revive the innings, the bottom half crumbled after the end of the 70-run stand. As India gear up for the ODI leg of their Australian tour, their eyes are firmly fixed on the big prize – the World Cup. Before that they play a tri-nation ODI series against Australia and England, which captain MS Dhoni said will be a preparation ground for their World Champions title defense. “In this series the most important thing for us will be to get the combination right for the World Cup,” Dhoni said ahead of their first match of the tri-series, against Australia, on Sunday. “At the same time we will ensure that we don’t push the players who have minor niggles so they don’t end up being major injuries.
