Report & Highlights: India vs South Africa – ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

Image
Defending champions, India cantered to a 130-run win against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to strengthen their position at the top of the Group B table. Shikhar Dhawan’s (137) partnerships with Virat Kohli for 127 runs and his stand with Ajinkya Rahane (79 0ff 60) helped India set a 308-run target for the Proteas. Mohammad Shami led the attack to keep the Proteas batsmen on a tight leash with disciplined bowling while sharp fielding stifled the batsmen. After the pacer’s 5-1-15-1 first spell set the tone, the opposition’s batting line-up disintegrated chasing the challenging target. Shami and Mohit Sharma picked two each while R Ashwin claimed three as SA folded for 177 runs.   Earlier, after MS Dhoni elected to bat first, India were tied down by Dale Steyn who started the proceedings with a maiden to keep the batsmen under the pressure in the mandatory powerplay. It was on the tenth ball of the innings that Dhawan opened India’s account by hitting Ve...

Warm Up Report: Afghanistan vs India – World Cup 2015

Image
For the first half hour at the Adelaide Oval a few  Afghanistan  supporters who had made it to the ground to support their team cleared their throats and waved their flag high. The Afghanistan bowlers stuck to a good line and worked up good pace to get the Indian openers in all sorts of trouble after India won the toss and elected to bat first. ( Useful Link:  Warm-Up Results - ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 ) Shikhar Dhawan who was finally amongst some runs courtesy a half century in the previous warm-up fixture against Australia, made the long walk back to the pavilion after scoring just 4. An over later, Virat Kohli edged one to the keeper and India’s score read a dismal 16/2 in 4 overs. Rohit Sharma was then joined by Suresh Raina in the middle and for the next hour and a half; the cricket ball was given a sound pasting. The duo stitched together India’s repair work with a calculative and aggressive approach. As the innings progressed, Sharma began to look ominous, ...

Report: ENGLAND VS INDIA, 6th ODI - Tri Series 2015

Image
India's three-wicket loss to England cost them the spot in the final of the ODI Tri-series. Although India were bowled out for 200, the target proved to be competitive given the dual nature of the pitch. After Mohit Sharma set the ball rolling with the wicket of Ian Bell with just 14 runs on the board, Stuart Binny claimed three to leave the opposition on 66/5. But, James Taylor (82) and Jos Buttler (67) forged a 125-run stand to salvage the game for England. Although both departed with victory in sight, Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad took the side across the line with 19 balls to spare.  Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan had earlier batted determinedly to a lay a stable platform for India with an 83-run opening stand. But with the end of the 83-run opening stand it went downhill for the men in blue as wickets fell at regular intervals to the disciplined bowling by the English bowlers.  James Anderson had set the tone with a tight first spell which read 6-1-10-0 and was com...

Report: AUSTRALIA VS INDIA - 4th TEST, DAY 5, Sydney Cricket Ground

Image
Ajinkya Rahane helped India pull-off a draw in a nerve-wracking last session after Murali Vijay's (80) departure in the fourth over of the session triggered a mini collapse. With the fourth Test of the series ending in a draw at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia won the Border-Gavaskar, 2014-15 Trophy 2-0.  (Also Read:  HIGHLIGHTS: AUSTRALIA VS INDIA - 4th TEST, DAY 5, Sydney Cricket Ground ) Chasing 349, after Australia declared their innings on the overnight total of 251/6, Vijay led India's reply. The batsman, whose name is fast becoming synonymous with patience, held his nerve through tricky passages of time and anchored the innings for over two sessions to keep the visitors in fray. A short while later, with 148 runs needed, Virat Kohli (46) fell to Mitchell Starc, who also claimed Suresh Raina for a duck and Lyon picked Wriddhiman Saha for naught. Claiming wickets at regular intervals Australia seized the momentum. However, ably supported by Ravichandran Ashwin an...
