Statistical highlights: India vs Australia: 2nd Test, Day 3, Hyderabad

Third day's highlights:

# India have registered the first total of 500 or more at Uppal, Hyderabad, eclipsing their 472 against New Zealand in November 2010.

# India's 503 is their 14th total of 500 or more against Australia in
Tests - their highest being 705 for seven wickets declared at Sydney in January 2004.

# Cheteshwar Pujara (204) has posted his second double hundred in Tests - his first being 206 not out against England at Ahmedabad in November 2012.

# Pujara has completed his 1,000 runs in 18 innings - 1017 at an average of 67.80, including four hundreds and a fifty.  The said feat is the second quickest in terms of innings by an Indian batsman, next only to Vinod Kambli (14). Herbert Sutcliffe (England) and Sir Everton Weekes (West Indies) took 12 innings each for their respective 1,000 runs - a world record.

# In terms of Tests taken for reaching 1000 for India, Sunil Gavaskar and Pujara have taken 11 Tests each followed by Vinod Kambli (12), Vijay Hazare (13) and Sadagoppan Ramesh (13). 

# Pujara is averaging 83.00 against Australia in three Tests - his aggregate being 332 in five innings, including a double hundred and a fifty.

# Pujara is the seventh Indian batsman to register a double hundred against Australia, joining Sachin Tendulkar (two), VVS Laxman (two), Rahul Dravid, Ravi Shastri, Gautam Gambhir and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

# Since November 2012, Pujara has registered three double hundreds and a triple hundred in first-class cricket - 206 not out against England,  203 not out against Madhya Pradesh, 352 against Karnataka and 204 against Australia.

# Pujara is the first Indian batsman to register a double hundred at Uppal, Hyderabad in Tests.

# Pujara is averaging 181.50 at Uppal, Hyderabad - his aggregate being 363 in two innings.  He is the only one to hit 50 boundaries or more at this venue - 49 fours + two sixes.

# Pujara's double hundred is the 43rd for India in Tests.  Both Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag have recorded six double centuries each - an Indian record. 

# Murali Vijay (167 off 361 balls) has posted a career-best score in Tests, surpassing the 139 at Bangalore in October 2010.

# Vijay's innings is the tenth knock of 150 or more by an Indian opener against Australia in Tests.  Virender Sehwag is the only one to record three such knocks, followed by Sunil Gavaskar's two.

# Ravi Shastri (206 at Sydney in January 1992) and Gautam Gambhir (206 at Delhi in October/November 2008) share the Indian record for most runs as an opener in an innings against Australia in Tests.  These are the only double hundreds by Indian openers against Australia in Tests.

# Vijay's marvellous knock is the joint fifth highest by an Indian opener in Tests against Australia.

# Vijay and Pujara were involved in a stand of 370 - India's highest second-wicket partnership in Tests, eclipsing an unbroken 344 between Dilip Vengsarkar and Sunil Gavaskar against the West Indies at Kolkata in December 1978.

# The aforesaid partnership is India's fourth highest for any wicket in Tests - the three highest being 413 for the first wicket between Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy against New Zealand at Chennai in January 1956; 410 for the first wicket between Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag against Pakistan at Lahore in January 2006 and 376 for the fifth wicket between Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman against Australia at Kolkata in March 2001.

# Mahendra Singh Dhoni (44 off 43 balls) is the top run-getter in the present series, overtaking Pujara's tally of 256 at an average of 128.00 in three innings.  Dhoni's present tally is 268 at an average of 134.00 in just two innings.

# Dhoni has completed his 3000 runs in first team innings - 3001 at an average of 43.49, including six hundreds and 19 fifties, in 74 innings.  He is the eleventh Indian to accomplish the feat.

# Virat Kohli has completed his 1,000 runs in 16 Tests - 1032 at an average of 41.28 in 27 innings.

# Harbhajan Singh's 19th duck in Tests is his sixth against Australia. Of his ten ducks in India, five have been recorded by him against Australia.

# Xavier Doherty (3/131) has produced his best bowling performance in Tests, eclipsing the 2 for 41 against England at Brisbane in November 2010.

# Maxwell's economy rate of 4.88 is the second highest by an Australian bowler on debut in Tests, next only to the 4.90 by Jason Krejza in the first innings against India in the 2008-09 Nagpur Test.

# Phillip Hughes' fifth duck in Tests is his second against India.  He is averaging 6.25 in the present series - 25 runs in four innings. 

# David Warner has recorded three bowled dismissals in Tests - all vs India - Melbourne, December 2011 and twice at Hyderabad.

# Ravichandran Ashwin's tally of 15 wickets (ave.18.73) is the highest by any bowler in the present series.
