India's charge on Day 3 of the opening Test was led by MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli who slammed centuries to make Australia struggle through the day. 

# India (515/8) have recorded their highest total against Australia at Chepauk, eclipsing the 501 in 2000-01.

# Overall, the aforesaid total is India's fifth highest at Chepauk (their sixth of 500-plus) - the highest is 627 against South Africa in March 2008.

# Sachin Tendulkar took his run-aggregate at Chepauk to 957 at an average of 87.00 in ten Tests - the second highest tally at this venue, next only to Sunil Gavaskar's 1018 at an average of 59.88 in 12 Tests.

# Tendulkar is averaging 95.75 against Australia at Chepauk - his aggregate being 383 in five innings (three Tests) - the sequence of scores being 4 & 155 not out in March 1998; 126 & 17 in March 2001 and 81 in February 2013.

# Since posting 94 against the West Indies in the 2011-12 Mumbai Test, Tendulkar's 81 is his highest score in 19 innings.

# Tendulkar's aggregate of 3519 (ave.57.68) in 36 Tests against Australia is exceeded only by England's Jack Hobbs - 3636 (ave.54.26) in 41 Tests.

# Tendulkar's record against Australia in India is quite impressive - 1710 runs at an average of 63.33 in 16 Tests, including five hundreds and nine fifties.

# Amongst the six batsmen with 4,000 runs or more in international cricket against Australia, Sachin is the only one to manage an average of 50-plus - his aggregate being 6596 at an average of 50.73 in 138 innings, including twenty hundreds and 31 fifties. Vivian Richards has the next best average - 4453 runs at an average of 47.37, including eight hundreds and 34 fifties, in 104 innings.

# Tendulkar has been dismissed as 'bowled' 54 times - a tally bettered only by Rahul Dravid (55) in Tests.

# In international cricket, Tendulkar has been bowled 123 times - an unwanted record, followed by Dravid (112), Allan Border (110) and Steve Waugh (102).

# Tendulkar and Virat Kohli were involved in a stand of 91 - India's third highest for the fourth wicket against Australia at Chepauk, next only to the 127 between Mohammad Azharuddin and Tendulkar in March 1998 and 99 between Syed Kirmani and Dilip Vengsarkar in September 1979.

# Virat Kohli's 107 is his second highest score against Australia, next only to the 116 at Adelaide in January 2012.  He has registered hundreds against Australia in successive Tests.

# Kohli has recorded back to back hundreds for the first time in Tests - 103 against England at Nagpur in December 2012 and 107 against Australia at Chennai on Sunday.

# Kohli has posted two hundreds against Australia and one each against England and New Zealand.

# Kohli has missed his 1,000 runs by two runs - 998 at an average of 41.58 in 15 Tests.

# Kohli and Dhoni were associated in a partnership of 128 - India's second highest for the fifth wicket against Australia at Chepauk.

# India's highest partnership against Australia for any wicket at this venue is 169 for the fifth wicket between Rahul Dravid and Tendulkar in March 2001.  The said stand is India's highest fifth-wicket partnership at this venue.

# Kohli has shared five century partnerships in Tests - three with Dhoni and one each with Cheteshwar Pujara and Wriddhiman Saha - his highest being 198 for the fifth wicket with Dhoni against England at Nagpur in December 2012.

# Dhoni and Kohli's run-rate of 4.89  (128 off 157 balls) is India's highest for the fifth wicket partnership against Australia, surpassing the 4.29 between Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman during their stand of 146 at Brisbane in December 2003 (minimum 100).

# Overall, the aforesaid run-rate is India's fifth best for the fifth wicket in Tests - the best being 5.90 by VVS Laxman and Yuvraj Singh, during their unbroken 120 off 122 balls against New Zealand at Napier inMarch 2009.

# Tendulkar's wicket was Nathan Loyn's 100th first-class wicket in 37 games.

# Mahendra Singh Dhoni (206 not out) has registered a career-best in Tests - his first double hundred, outstripping the 148 against Pakistan at Faisalabad in January 2006.

# Dhoni's aforesaid innings is his first double century in first-class cricket - in fact, his first innings of 150 or more.

# Dhoni's first hundred against Australia is his sixth in Tests.

# Dhoni has recorded five hundreds in India and one in Pakistan.

# As captain-cum-wicketkeeper, Dhoni has posted five centuries in 44 Tests, extending his world record.

# Dhoni's innings is the highest individual score by an Indian wicketkeeper in Tests, obliterating Budhi Kunderan's 192 in 415 minutes as an opener
against England at Corporation Stadium, Chennai in January 1964.

# Andy Flower, Kumar Sangakkara, Taslim Arif, Imtiaz Ahmed, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Adam Gilchrist and Brendon Kuruppu are the players to have recorded double hundreds as wicketkeeper in Tests.  Taslim Arif and Dhoni are the only ones to register double hundreds against Australia.

# Dhoni is the first Indian captain to post a double hundred against Australia in Tests, surpassing the 163 not out by Mohammad Azharuddin at   Kolkata in 1997-98

# Dhoni's unbeaten innings of 206 is the first double hundred by an Indian player against Australia at Chepauk - the fourth highest by an Indian at this venue.  

# For the second time in India-Australia Tests, both the captains have scored hundreds in the same Test match.  Allan Border (106) and Kapil Dev (119) had posted hundreds in the 1986-87 tied Chennai Test.

# Dhoni is the first Indian and the seventh wicketkeeper to manage 4,000 runs or more in Tests - 4089  (ave.40.08) in 74 Tests.  He has joined Adam Gilchrist (5570), Mark Boucher (5515), Alec Stewart (4540), Andy Flower (4404), Alan Knott (4389) and Ian Healy (4356).

# Dhoni is the fourth Indian captain to register a double hundred in Tests, joining  Sachin Tendulkar (217) against New Zealand at Ahmedabad in 1999-00, Sunil Gavaskar  (205) against  West Indies at Mumbai in 1978-79 and
Nawab of Pataudi (203 not out) against  England at  Delhi in    1963-64

# Dhoni is the second Indian player to have recorded 200 or more in a day's play in Tests, joining Virender Sehwag (three times).  

# Dhoni is the fourth batsman, joining Brian Lara (twice), Tip Foster and Wally Hammond to post 200 or more in a day's play against Australia in Tests.

# Dhoni, with 2667 runs at an average of 45.20 in 44 Tests, has overtaken Sourav Ganguly's tally of 2561 (ave.37.66) in 49 Tests.  Only Sunil Gavaskar (3449) and Mohammad Azharuddin (2856) have amassed more runs than Dhoni as captain for India.

# Dhoni has become the first player to complete 8000 international runs as captain-cum-wicketkeeper - 8197 at an average of 49.37 in 220 matches.

# Pattinson has clean bowled four batsmen in a Test innings for the first time.

# Pattinson has captured four wickets in an innings three times against India - once each at Sydney, Melbourne and Chennai.

# Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar have added 109 (unbroken) - India's first century stand for the ninth wicket against Australia, eclipsing the 89 between Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh at Bangalore in 2004-05.

# The aforesaid partnership is India's eighth century stand for the ninth wicket in Tests - the highest is 149 between Ramakant Desai and PG Joshi  against Pakistan at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai in 1960-61.

# Seven bowled dismissals in India's innings is a record in India-Australia Tests.
