# Australia remain the only team to manage two totals of 300 or more on the first day at Chepauk.
# Australia have posted their sixth total of 300 or more against India in Tests at Chepauk - their only total of 500 or more being 574 for seven wickets declared in September 1986.
# Harbhajan Singh became the tenth Indian player to appear in 100 Tests. Sachin Tendulkar, with 195 Tests, holds a record, followed by Rahul Dravid (164), VVS Laxman (134), Anil Kumble (132), Kapil Dev (131), Sunil Gavaskar (125), Dilip Vengsarkar (116), Sourav Ganguly (113) and Virender Sehwag (103).
# Mahendra Singh Dhoni, with Ed Cowan's stumping, has become the first wicketkeeper to effect 20 stumpings on Indian soil, bettering Syed Kirmani's tally of 19 stumpings.

# Phillip Hughes is averaging 28.80 (605 in 21 innings) in first team innings as compared to his average of 44.12 (706 in 17 innings) in second team innings.
