 # Australia (316/7) have recorded the second highest score on the first day of a Test match at Chepauk - the highest is 326 for three by Australia in March 2001.

# Australia remain the only team to manage two totals of 300 or more on the first day at Chepauk.

# Australia have posted their sixth total of 300 or more against India in Tests at Chepauk - their only total of 500 or more being 574 for seven wickets declared in September 1986.    

# Harbhajan Singh became the tenth Indian player to appear in 100 Tests. Sachin Tendulkar, with 195 Tests, holds a record, followed by Rahul Dravid (164), VVS Laxman (134), Anil Kumble (132), Kapil Dev (131), Sunil Gavaskar (125), Dilip Vengsarkar (116), Sourav Ganguly (113) and Virender Sehwag (103).

# Mahendra Singh Dhoni, with Ed Cowan's stumping, has become the first wicketkeeper to effect 20 stumpings on Indian soil, bettering Syed Kirmani's tally of 19 stumpings.

# Dhoni's aforesaid dismissal was his 109th in 37 Tests on Indian soil, outstripping Syed Kirmani's tally of 108 (89 catches + 19 stumpings) in 48 Tests.  Dhoni has now 89 catches + 20 stumpings in Tests in India.

# Phillip Hughes is averaging 28.80 (605 in 21 innings) in first team innings as compared to his average of 44.12 (706 in 17 innings) in second team innings.

# David Warner and Cowan put on 64 - Australia's third highest for the first wicket at Chepauk - the highest being 136 between Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer in October 2004.  In the 2000-01 Chennai Test, Hayden and Michael Slater had recorded 82 for the opening wicket.

# David Warner's first fifty against India is his sixth in Tests.

# Warner's 59 is his second highest score against India, next only to the 180 off 159 balls (a career-best) at Perth in January 2012.

# Warner is averaging 49.83 in Tests in Australia as compared to his overseas average of 32.85.

# Warner's sequence of scores away from home in seven innings is 42, 22, 29, 17, 50 and 11 against the West Indies in April 2012 & 59 against India.

# Warner has been dismissed lbw just two times out of 25 dismissals - both times against India - the first instance being in the Adelaide Test in January 2012.

# Warner and Watson were involved in a stand of 54 - Australia's fourth   highest for the third wicket at Chepauk - the highest being 222 between Allan Border and Kim Hughes in September 1979.

# Ravichandran Ashwin (6/88) has produced his best bowling performance against Australia in Tests, surpassing 3 for 81 at Melbourne in December 2011.

# Since claiming five for 69 against New Zealand at Bangalore in August/September 2012, Ashwin, for the first time in nine Test innings, has captured more than three wickets in a Test innings.

# Six wickets out of six were captured by Ashwin for the first time in a Test innings.

# Ashwin's first five-wicket haul against Australia is his sixth in Tests - all at home - three times against New Zealand and twice against the West Indies.

# Four times in his career, Ashwin has captured six wickets in an innings - twice against New Zealand and once each against Australia and the West Indies.

# Ashwin has captured 69 wickets at 30.86 runs apiece - the most by an Indian bowler in 13 Tests, surpassing Anil Kumble's tally of 66 wickets at 25.48 runs apiece in 13 Tests.

# Subhash Gupte and Ashwin are the only two bowlers to have produced six five-wicket hauls after 13 Tests. 

# Michael Clarke has become the tenth Australian batsman to complete 7,000 runs or more in Tests - 7092 at an average of 53.32 in 90 Tests.

# Clarke's feat of reaching 7000 runs in 149 innings is the third quickest by an Australian player in Tests - the quickest being 142 by Matthew Hayden and 145 by Ricky Ponting.  The three fastest to 7000 in Tests are Wally Hammond (131), Virender Sehwag (134) and Sachin Tendulkar (136).

# Clarke, as captain, is averaging 72.57 - his run-aggregate being 2395   in 22 Tests, including nine hundreds.

# His tally of 23 hundreds is bettered only by Ricky Ponting (41), Steve Waugh (32), Matthew Hayden (30), Don Bradman (29), Allan Border (27) and Greg Chappell (24) for Australia in Tests.

# Since posting 112 at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi in October 2008, Clarke has registered his first fifty-plus in seven innings against India in India in Tests.

# Clarke has posted three hundreds in his last four Tests against India - 329 not out at Sydney; 18 at Perth, 210 & 37 at Adelaide and 103 not out   at Chennai - his aggregate being 697 in five innings at an average of 232.33.

# Clarke is the third Australian skipper to register a hundred at Chepauk - the first two being Kim Hughes (100 in 1979-80) and Allan Border (106 in 1986-87).  The only other visiting captain to post a hundred at this venue is Imran Khan (Pakistan) - 135 not out in 1986-87.

# Sunil Gavaskar is the only captain to register two hundreds at this venue - 166 against Pakistan in 1979-80 and 155 against Sri Lanka in 1982-83.  Kapil Dev is the only other Indian skipper to post a hundred at Chepauk - 119 against Australia in 1986-87.   

# Michael Clarke is averaging 53.32 in Tests - his highest since December 2004.

# Since 2012, Clarke has managed 1777 runs at an average of 104.52, including six hundreds in 13 Tests - the most by any batsman.

# Clarke's tally of six hundreds against India is bettered only by Ricky Ponting (8) for Australia.  Two other Australian players who have posted six centuries against India are - David Boon and Matthew Hayden. 

# Michael Clarke and Moises Henriques were associated in a stand of 151 - Australia's highest sixth-wicket partnership at Chepauk, eclipsing the 63 between Allan Border and Greg Matthews in September 1986.

# The aforesaid partnership is the highest by any pair against India for the sixth wicket at Chepauk, surpassing the 99 between Hashim Amla and Mark Boucher for South Africa in March 2008.

# The record sixth-wicket stand at Chepauk is 170 between Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri against the West Indies in December 1983.

# The 151-run partnership is Australia's ninth century stand for the sixth wicket against India in Tests - the highest is 197 between Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in March 2001.

# The above stand is the joint fourth highest sixth-wicket partnership for Australia against India in Tests.

# Henriques' 68 is the joint fifth highest for Australia against India on debut in Tests. Michael Clarke is the only centurion for Australia on Test debut against India - 151 at Bangalore in October 2004.
