Fourth day's highlights - India vs Australia

# India (572) have registered their highest total against Australia at Chepauk, surpassing the 501 in March 2001.

# India's aforesaid total is their sixth highest against Australia in Tests - the highest being 705 for seven wickets declared at Sydney in January 2004.

# The 572 is India's second highest total at Chepauk, next only to the 627 against South Africa in March 2008.

# India's highest ever against Australia in Tests in India is 657 for seven wickets declared at Eden Gardens, Kolkata in March 2001.

# India's run-rate of 3.70 (572 off 154.3 overs) is their highest against Australia at Chennai - their fifth highest ever against Australia. (minimum 500) India's highest run-rate against Australia is 3.98 during their 633 for five wickets declared off 159 overs at Kolkata in March 1998.

# Nathan Lyon (47-1-215-3), for the first time, has conceded 200 runs or more in a Test innings, surpassing the 136 runs conceded by him against South Africa at Brisbane in November 2012.

# Lyon has emulated the unwanted feat of Jason Krejza (43.5-1-215-8 at Nagpur in November 2008).  Both share a dubious distinction of conceding most runs in a Test innings for Australia against India.  Only Rangana Herath (53.3-2-240-3) for Sri Lanka at Brabourne Stadium, in December 2009 and Suraj Randiv (73-16-222-2) for Sri Lanka at Colombo,SSC in July
2010 have conceded more runs than Krejza and Lyon against India in a Test innings.

# Brett Lee (39.3-5-201-4) is the only other Australian bowler to concede 200 runs in a Test innings against India - at Sydney in 2003-04.

# Mahendra Singh Dhoni has established an Indian record for the highest individual innings by a captain. His outstanding 224 has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's 217 against New Zealand at Ahmedabad in October 1999.

# Dhoni's 224 is the third highest by a wicketkeeper in Tests - the top two innings being 232 not out by Andy Flower (Zimbabwe) against India at Nagpur in November 2000 and 230 by Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) against Pakistan at Lahore in March 2002.

# Dhoni's innings is the third highest individual innings at Chepauk, next only to Virender Sehwag's 319 against South Africa in March 2008 and Sunil Gavaskar's 236 not out against the West Indies in December 1983.

# Dhoni's 224 is bettered on Indian soil as captain only by Clive Lloyd's unbeaten 242 for West Indies at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in January 1975.

# Dhoni, for the third time in a Test innings, has recorded six sixes in an innings - the first two instances were against West Indies and Sri Lanka.

# Dhoni has equalled Ravi Shastri's tally of six sixes in an innings against Australia.  Both share an Indian record for most sixes in a Test innings against Australia.  Shastri had achieved the feat during his unbeaten knock of 121 off 287 balls at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in October 1986.

# Chris Gayle and Dhoni are the only two captains to have recorded six sixes or more in a Test innings twice.  Dhoni's innings of 100 not out off 154 balls against Sri Lanka at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai in December 2009 had contained three fours and six sixes.

# Gayle (102 off 72 balls, including nine fours and six sixes at Perth in December 2009) and Dhoni are the only two captains to have registered six sixes in a Test innings against Australia.

# Dhoni's impressive strike rate of 84.52 is the fourth highest by an Indian player against Australia - the highest being 99.14 (116 off 117 balls) by Krish Srikkanth at Sydney in January 1986.(minimum 100)

# Dhoni's aforesaid strike rate is the second highest by a captain, registering a double hundred in Tests, next only to 89.49 by Michael Clarke during his 230 of 257 balls against South Africa in the 2012-13 Adelaide Test. 

# Bhuvneshwar Kumar (38) has set an Indian record for the highest score by number ten batsman on debut, eclipsing the 28 off 49 balls by Paras Mhambrey against England at Birmingham in 1996

# The 140-run partnership between Dhoni and Kumar is India's third highest for the ninth wicket in Tests - the top two being 149 between Desai and Joshi against Pakistan at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai in December 1960 and 143 (unbroken) between Gavaskar and Kirmani against West Indies at Chepauk, Chennai in December 1983.

# James Pattinson (5/96) has produced his first five-wicket haul away from home - his third in Tests - his first against India.

# Pattinson's first two five-wicket hauls were against New Zealand in December 2011 - 5/27 at Brisbane and 5 for 51 at Hobart.

# Pattinson's previous best figures against India were 4 for 43 at Sydney in January 2012.

# Pattinson is the sixth Australian bowler to bag five wickets or more in an innings at Chepauk.  Ashley Mallett and Greg Matthews are the only two Australian bowlers to have produced two five-wicket hauls at this venue. 

# Phillip Hughes' first duck against India is his fourth in Tests.

# Hughes is averaging 29.71 in the sub-continent - 208 runs in seven innings, including a hundred - 126 against Sri Lanka at Colombo, SSC in September 2011 - and two ducks.

# Matthew Wade is averaging 15.57 in second team innings as compared to 60.14 in first team innings.

# Wade's sequence of scores in the second innings were 18, 31 not out, 4, 18, 10, 11, 9 & 8 - his aggregate being 109 in eight innings.  In eight second innings scores, he has posted just eight fours.

# Ravichandran Ashwin (12/193) has recorded his second instance of ten wickets or more in a Test match - his career-best figures being 12 for 85 against New Zealand at Hyderabad in 2012.

# Ashwin's seventh five-wicket haul is his second against Australia - all at home.

# For the second time in his Test career, Ashwin has captured five wickets or more in each innings of a Test match - the first instance being against New Zealand at Hyderabad last year - 6 for 31 and 6 for 54. 

# Ashwin is the first Indian bowler to capture 75 wickets in his first 13 Tests. 

# Moises Henriques (68 & 75) has recorded a fifty in each innings of a Test match on his debut.  He is the third Australian after Rick Darling and Peter Toohey to achieve the feat on his debut against India.

# Apart from the three Australians, Gordon Greenidge, Clive Lloyd. Alastair 
Cook and Cyril Poole have achieved the aforesaid feat against India.

# Moises Henriques and Nathan Lloyn were involved in a stand of 57 - Australia's highest for the tenth wicket on Indian soil. The said partnership is their second highest for the last wicket against India, behind the 77 between Allan Border and Dave Gilbert at Melbourne in December 1985.

Propelled by Rohit Sharma’s magnificent double-century, India marched to a 153-run win in Kolkata. While Eden Gardens celebrated 150 years, Rohit lit-up the stadium with a well paced 264 off 173 to make the occasion memorable. In doing so, he etched his name in the history books by posting the highest individual score in ODI cricket and became the only batsman to post two double hundreds in the 50-over format till date. It was breathtaking knock by the opener that set-up the match for India.
