India A vs England XI, Warm up - Day 3: Match Report

England XI’s three-day tour game against India A at the Brabourne stadium ended in a draw. After posting 426 in reply to India A’s first innings score of 369, the visitors picked only four second-innings wickets as India A put up 124 runs, before stumps on Day 3.

Earlier, England XI resumed from their overnight score of 286/4, with Alastair Cook and Samit Patel at the crease. The duo picked up where they had left off the previous evening and ended up adding 169 runs for the fifth wicket, before Cook was dismissed for 119 by Ashok Dinda. Patel, however, rallied on and brought up an impressive century; he fell to Yuvraj Singh after scoring 104 runs.

Matt Prior (51) also did well to bring up his half-century, before holing out to Suresh Raina off the bowling of Yuvraj Singh. Even Tim Bresnan had a decent outing with the bat as he remained unbeaten on 33. Yuvraj Singh was the pick of the India A bowlers and clocked figures of 5/94. England XI managed 426 runs – 57 more than India A’s tally – in their first innings.

India A were then set on the back foot early on by the England XI bowlers during their second innings. Abhinav Mukund (3), who scored a half-century on Day 1, was dismissed by Anderson in the third over. However, Ajinkya Rahane, who came in at No.3, strung together a 65-run partnership with Murali Vijay (32), before the latter was caught by Graeme Swann off the bowling of Anderson. Yuvraj Singh (14) was the next to depart; the left-hander was caught by Ian Bell off Tim Bresnan. A while later, Rahane perished to Samit Patel. Suresh Raina (19) and Manoj Tiwary (2) were still at the crease when the umpires called for stumps.
