KKR vs PER - M9 - CLT20-2012
The Weather Gods had their way in the match between the Perth Scorchers and the Kolkata Knight Riders. 14 overs into the Scorchers’ innings, rains set in and forced the players back into the dressing rooms. After more than an hour, the rains did not relent and the match officials had to declare the match as a No Result. Both teams would walk away with two points. The result means, barring miracles, KKR are out of contention from making it to the semi-finals of CLT20 2012.
Earlier in the evening, the Kolakta Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir won the toss and put the Scorchers in to bat. The IPL champions got off to a great start when Brett Lee dismissed the dangerous Herschelle Gibbs in the first over.
Shaun Marsh and Simon Katich then added 70 runs over the next ten overs to put their team back on track. Marsh, who was timing the ball beautifully, would be dismissed when he missed a yorker from Jacques Kallis to be rapped on the pads in front of the leg stump; he made 38 and hit three boundaries and a six during his 40-ball knock.
Katich too appeared to be in good nick; he was given an early reprieve when Manoj Tiwary grassed a difficult opportunity at point. The left-hander would make KKR pay for their generosity as he hit four cracking boundaries during his 32-ball 43. Mitchell Marsh, promoted to No.4, had scored 5 off 10 balls when the rains set in.
The Perth Scorchers had scored 91 for 2 after 14 overs when rains forced the players in.
Brief Scores: Perth Scorchers 91 for 2 in 14 overs (Shaun Marsh 38, Simon Katich 43*); Match abandoned due to rain.
