3 Kolkata Knight Riders’ score at the fall of the third wicket – worst start for any side in CLT20. Victoria had made 6 for 3 against New South Wales at Delhi in 2009.

3 Number of ducks recorded by Gautam Gambhir in CLT20. Only Robert Quiney (4) has aggregated more ducks than him in the tournament.

4 Number of times two wickets fell in first over of a team innings in CLT20. Irfan Pathan is the first Indian bowler to claim two wickets in first over of a team innings.

30 Runs scored by the Delhi Daredevils - Ross Taylor (10), Unmukt Chand (16), Extras (40) - in the 17th over (bowled by L Balaji), equalling the record of most runs scored off a single over in CLT20. Interestingly, the previous instance of 30 runs in one single over had come from the Kolkata Knight Riders against Somerset at Hyderabad in 2011 when Yusuf Pathan and Jacques Kallis took Arul Suppiah to the cleaners.

61 Runs conceded by L Balaji - second most by a bowler in a CLT20 match. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Sreenath Aravind had conceded 69 runs against South Australia at Bengaluru in 2011. During their run-chase, it took the Kolkata Knight Riders 12.4 overs to beat Balaji’s tally!

64.86 Rajat Bhatia’s dot percentage in the match (24 dots of 37 balls faced). In all CLT20 matches only one batsman has a higher dot percentage in an innings of 25 balls or more. Central Districts’ Brendon Diamanti had a dot percentage of 67.86 (19 dots of 28 balls) against Wayamba at Port Elizabeth in 2010.

Delhi Daredevils win by 52 runs

Brief Scores: Delhi Daredevils 160-8 in 20 overs (Unmukt Chand 40, Ross Taylor 36, Sunil Narine 3-21, L Balaji 2-61) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 108-7 in overs 20 (Manoj Tiwary 33, Rajat Bhatia 26, Umesh Yadav 2-13, Irfan Pathan 2-20, Morne Morkel 2-25)

Man of the Match: Irfan Pathan, for his bowling spell of two for 19, which included the wickets of Gautam Gambhir and Manvinder Bisla in the first over.

  • Jayawardene: "We wanted to be aggressive and start this tournament well, we wanted to keep wickets in hand and we probably should have had someone go on to make a bigger score, Unmukt Chand was brilliant for us. The way we started the second innings was brilliant and we never let them go as we kept the pressure on. It's a very good start and we need to make sure we keep the momentum going."
  • Gambhir: "This is what this format is all about, we thought we were in the game at the halfway point but sometimes these things happen. A lot of credit needs to go to the Delhi Daredevils and the way their fast bowlers played tonight. Hopefully we can respond in our next match and turn things round."
